Vote Yankee Magazines 2016 Best Community Theater in New England, come see why we are THE place to visit in the Quiet Corner of Connecticut. Quality community theater providing 8 main season shows and numerous additional evenings of entertainment.
Went to see "Buddy", a musical we fell in love with after seeing it at the Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia a few years ago. The play was excellent; particular credit goes to the actor who played Buddy Holly. Loved the show.
The theater is small, seating is tight, but every seat has a good view. The staff (mostly volunteer I understand) was friendly and really motivated to see everyone had a good time. The patrons dressed very casually - nothing formal here - you can be comfortable in attire. Theater sells snacks and beer.
All in all it was a rewarding experience; it was our first visit there but definitely won't be our last. Although we drove 1 ½ hours to get there, we liked the whole Putnam area, and plan to go back again when we can spend a full day in the shops, restaurants, and of course the Bradley.
Ample free parking is very close - 1 block or less - spread over several lots. Make sure you download the downtown parking map from the Bradley's website, to get your bearings.

I reviewed this wonderful house in July, 2013. This is our third visit to Historic New England's Roseland Cottage, but our first visit in the sun. The first two times it was raining so hard, that we never got to enjoy the beautiful gardens in front of the house. We have paid expensive admission fees to see flowers and gardens that were not as impressive as what we saw today in the sun.
We have been members of Historic New England for many years. It is the best deal around. Family membership is only $60.00 a year. You can visit all 37 properties as many times as you want for an entire year.
Roseland Cottage is open Wednesday - Sunday from June 1st to October 15th. You must go on a tour to see the house. Tours are on the hour from 11 A.M. to 4 P.M. There is a visitors' center where you arrange for the tours $10.00 ($9.00 for seniors) if you are not Historic New England members. There are rest rooms and a small store in the visitors' center The center was open when we got there at 10:50 A.M.
While in the area, you might also want to visit Roseland Park which Henry Bowen donated to the town of Woodstock in 1876. Henry Bowen, the man who had Roseland Cottage built as a summer home, needed a bigger space to host his huge July 4th celebrations, so he bought land and established a park.
Woodstock Academy is across the street from Roseland Cottage. Founded in 1801, it was Henry Bowen's financial support that kept it from closing in the 1840s. Henry and other family members continued to contribute generously to the Academy for many years.
Every spring the graduating seniors (over 200 of them) come over to Roseland Cottage for a party and to tour the house. You may also want to tour the Woodstock Academy's campus.

Skydive Danielson specializes in first time tandem skydivers. Operating out of the Danielson Airport since 1997. Our safety record is second to none, jump with the best! Voted "Best DZ in the US" 3 years running.
Sitting by our pool this summer I heard laughing and what sounded like a good time up in the clouds. Looking up i saw several colorful parachutes with happy and BRAVE people dangling from them. Now we watch them all summer. It's like having your own show right in our backyard. Brave souls!

We started at the beginning in Willimantic and only rode out 12 miles to about Chaplin because we had to ride back too. The first two miles are not scenic as you are riding through neighborhoods and behind car dealerships. There are also a bunch of cement blocks placed about every 1/4 mile to keep motorbikes and ATVs out. It didn't really work because an ATV passed us on our way back. This part is paved. Once you get past the 2 mile mark it is much nicer with pretty swamps and forests. And this part is not paved but easy to ride as long as you have a mountain bike. There is one section where they have been working on it and I'm sure it's better than it was but it was really tough riding through. The dirt was very deep and it took a lot of effort to pedal through. Once we got past that it was better. We only saw 3 other bikers and one runner so it was certainly a quiet ride. I would like to ride the rest of the trail someday. I recommend parking farther away from Willimantic, there are plenty of places to park at each road crossing. All in all it was a very nice scenic trail.

The cars are awesome but if you think you are driving around the Thompson Speedway, you are in for a surprise. The drive takes place in a parking lot! The $50 insurance is unnecessary, as you won't make it out of second gear. It's a unique experience, but not really worth the fee.

Buffalo farm with petting area.
We have been to the farm twice, including last Fall. Bison are NOT cows. They are very independent and are not easy to keep penned up. They run faster than a racehourse (up to 35 MPH) and can jump higher than a deer (over 6 feet). They looked health and well cared for; similiar to those in the wilds of Yellowstone or Custer State Park.
This is a working farm and it looks it; flies and manure everywhere. The employees/owners were friendly and both times they gave an excellent tour. They explained about the bison we saw as well as the history of bison in the American West.
Visitors must come expecting to see reality; not a Hollywood or Disneyland prodiction. We plan to return.

Large antique marketplace with 300 antique vendors.
Cool antique mall with 3 floors to explore. I enjoyed walking around and was both awed and overwhelmed by the sheer volume of merchandise. I saw loads of jewelry, kitchen items, linens, war memorabilia, Christmas ornaments, furniture, coins, silver and so much more. I found a vintage silk scarf for $6.00 and love it !
Their business card says "Closed Tuesdays" so call ahead.

Disappointed in our visit although the drive to get there was beautiful. The "welcoming" desk was chaotic and the tasting area was located outside. It was very crowded and there was only 1 poor, sweaty wine-tender, doing his best to serve the masses. I wouldn't return.

This was my second time visiting this winery and my friend and I had done a tasting each time. What I will say is that we did not find one wine that we put an "unhappy" face on. I can honestly say this is the only winery in which I enjoy all of their whites, and that is not typical for me. My friend agreed as well. They do allow outside food to come in which we appreciate and will bring our "wine backpack" However do not miss buying the cheese from a local farm in Brooklyn it is fabulous. For the tastings they allow two for free, 5 for $5, or 10 for $10 which is great so you can make the call on how much you want to spend. Their indoor wine tasting area is very large, and can be busy on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. However the girl that did our tasting was very friendly, and we enjoyed our time there. They have several outdoor seating areas including a covered pavilion. The only thing that I will say that left a sour taste in my mouth (not the wine) was the fact that last year we were able to use a military discount. Being two military spouses we appreciate some of the other wineries offering this. My friend asked our girl and she said she was new so she would have to check with someone else. Whomever she checked with came over to talk to us and was SUPER rude and looked at my friend and I and asked "Is the military person here?" in a very rude tone. Like we were doing something wrong for asking for the discount. We stated no and she said "then you don't get it" and walked away. Not for nothing, but the service needs to remain consistent. I always get a discount at a competitor in the area and honestly they have never even asked to see my ID. Otherwise we will return as we absolutely adore their wines.

The tasting room has four very different beers on tap. The tasting is $6 and you get a shot glass to take home. The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable. They don't do tours since everything there is to see is in the tasting room. There is a parking lot across the street from the brewery.
