This is a full service library but most importantly it's a beautiful place to explore. There is so much history here and they hae created a very inviting place to sit and read. You can stop by the coffeeshop on the main floor and settle in any of the cozy reading spots. You'll be delighted but all the details original to this old building like the stain glass and the great fireplace. Definitely worth the stop.

The Johnston Farm & Indian Agency celebrates 2,000 years of Ohio's rich history from prehistoric Indians to Ohio's canal era. The focal point of the peaceful 200-acre park is John Johnston--farmer, public official, and U.S. Indian Agent for western Ohio from 1812 to 1829. Here Johnston's numerous contributions to the growth of early Ohio and the settlement of frontier America are presented in a truly unique and beautiful setting. Guests may also enjoy a ride aboard the General Harrison of Piqua, a replica 70-foot-long canal boat. Restroom facilities and a gift shop are located in the museum. Open by appointment Mon thru Fri in April, May, September and October. Open to the public 9:30 to 5:00 Thurs/Fri and noon to 5:00 Sat/Sun in June, July, and August.
My husband and I have travelled Ohio extensively, but somehow missed this unique much loved historic home. Well worth the admission price which includes the museum, a canal boat ride, a guided tour of the house and many outbuildings to explore. Guides were enthusiastic and...MoreThank you for your kind words about the site and the interpreters. Marla is blushing.

A lot of the stores that used to be at this mall have closed. However, all three anchor stores (Elder Beerman's, JCPenneys, and Sears) remain. This mall still has a few nice stores to go into. The mall has a nice atmosphere. It's usually not too busy and you don't feel rushed when shopping. The mall needs to be updated. They also need to have more stores, because a lot of the spaces are empty. The food court doesn't offer much of a selection. However, the janitors try their best to keep the area clean. Overall, this mall is nothing special but it is convenient to the people living in the area.

Downtown area offers several places to eat and shop, as well as a cultural center. Also, the current Lincoln statue exhibit is very cool. If in the area, this is definitely worth the stop to grab some lunch and explore.

This trail is on the NW side of Troy right off I75 (hence the noise - no way to get away from it). Beautiful trees. The trail winds along the river. Beautiful new bridge across the river. The trail could be under water when the Miami River is high - check before you go. This obviously occurred recently but the trail was nicely cleared off - no mud! (Lots of work - the parks department brought in bulldozers to clean it off!) Several parking lots to chose from (each with port o pots). Right now the western edge of the trail is closed but look for it to open soon. Beautiful waterfall in that direction. I will definitely be back to hike the closed section.

It was in the newspaper -Dayton Daily News so my wife and I decided to visit. I drove across 3 times and walked across twice. 30 minutes or less is all you need. Quite tranquil and plenty of parking space.

We were impressed by how well this 3-story former home had been restored after years of serving as a public library [and the impeccable upkeep]. Apparently it's a popular venue for receptions and showers, which I can understand. There was an interesting exhibit of Ohio coverlets when we were there in the upstairs gallery. We were also interested in the framed architectural drawings for the house. Naturally there's information about Troy's history and the family who lived there. Tucked away near the conservatory is an extremely well-done exhibit of the patent medicines and liquors that provide the basis for the family's wealth. Initially I didn't think I'd be interested in it but the curator did a superb job of providing interesting social/historical context for the rise and decline of the business.
This is a three-story building; although there's an elevator, I suspect access could be somewhat challenging for those with limited mobility.

Saw the sign on hwy 36 on our way back home and decided to make a quick detour to see a new place and stretch our legs. We were the only people in the 172 acre park on a winter week day. Stopped to use (clean) restroms by picnic area parking lot. Started towards trails but signs were posted saying trails were closed (ice, flooding from Lost Creek) and the way was barred by traffic cones and caution tape. I thought about taking the trail anyway but didn't because with my luck I would run into the only park ranger on duty in the entire Miami County park system and get hit with a heavy fine. Not wanting to take that risk, we drove around to the Burr Oak shelter to try our luck on the other side of the park. Wandered across an extensive archery range. How many parks have that? Tried to hike out through the prairie to the native trees arboretum but it was too wet and muddy. Same thing around the pond. Interesting park- will have to come back when it's warmer and drier. Trails are grass and dirt, not multisurface but I have pushed a wheelchair through worse terrain. Strollers shoud do fine.
