Great views of the countryside may be enjoyed from the summit.
During our Winter Getaway from NJ, we spent a week in Florida at a lovely Airbnb on Anastasia Island before heading up to Zirconia, NC to visit a cousin. The purpose of visiting the Pilot Mountain area was to check out Rustic Trail Teardrop Trailers which is a family owned and run small camper builder. Having read Facebook posts from others, decided to take a trip up as the sun was setting...and we were treated to a gorgeous sunset with an unusually cold for this time of year hike to the lookout of Pilot Mountain. Took lots of photos and have shared them with others who also can't believe what a special place this is. We will certainly plan a return to this area just to explore this mountain more in the future. Can only imagine how beautiful the view is in the Fall!

I'd driven by Pilot Mountain many times, but never realized that you could actually drive up & explore the top! Although you can't actually get to the *very* top, there is a good trail to hike around it, with varied levels of difficulty depending on your skill level. There are 3 main trails, with branches off of each. There is a restroom facility, and a great lookout view with picnic benches & charcoal grilles available. All in all, a great place to visit for a hiking adventure, a picnic, or just to enjoy the beauty of the Blue Ridge mountains!

We took our 7 and 13 year old boys and the whole family just loved it. The place is absolutely beautiful- in a gorgeous valley next to a little river. There are goats and chickens, dogs, and a donkey- always a plus to have a few animals around. Keith, the owner, has a wonderful and calm manner with people. He has 11 kids and knows how to joke with kids and put people at ease. Aaron, our other guide, was just precious as well. We felt very safe and just had a great time. It can be difficult to find stuff our boys enjoy doing together bc of the 6 year age difference but this choice was a winner!!

We stopped to check out this interesting establishment when we were visiting Pilot Mountain. There are A LOT of antiques in here covering two levels. There's something for everyone. The best part was the lady who was working there and her black Yorkie-Poo furbaby who was the sweetest thing! We didn't buy anything but we had a wonderful time just looking around at all of the booths full of antiques.

Bregman's trail riding offers guided horse back rides of the Pilot Mountain State Park. Relax and enjoy the nature on some of the best tails North Carolina has to offer. If you have never ridden a horse you can feel safe with a free lesson before your adventure. We are true pro's and have trained horses for over 25 years.
Excellent experience for our family -– both experienced riders and others not so much. The staff were great, especially our guide Verna who was so patient and informative. The ride was beautiful, relaxing and fun. Highly recommended.

This place is simply amazing. It's located in an old bank building. You don't even have to be a gas/oil enthusiast to enjoy walking through the place. The amount of memorabilia Thornton Beroth (called the Godfather of Petroleum) has accumulated simply blew my mind. The American Pickers also thought it was worth a stop and even purchased some items there (in the episode called "Duke of Oil".
We were walking around the town of Pilot Mountain (where they got the name for Mt. Pilot on the Andy Griffith show) and stopped to look in the windows of this place. Mr. Beroth was inside working on an old gas pump and invited us in to self tour the building. After we saw everything there he even stopped to talk to us and tell us stories of the Pickers and his collections. He didn't need to do this because he appeared to be busy but this is just the way small town people are.....friendly and awesome.
I could say more about the museum but I think I'll let my pictures do the talking. It's definitely worth stopping by. I'm still talking about the place (help, I'm talking and I can't shut up). You will love it and you will feel like you have known Thornton Beroth all your life.
