This destination is not always easily reachable - but between Memorial Day and Labor day the ferries run both from Fort Mott in New Jersey and Delaware City in Delaware. The journey to the Pea Patch Island is pleasant in itself. From the ferry pier you will be transported by jitney to the Fort. Most tourists stop afterwards in Visitor Center and start self-guided tour. The Fort served as Civil War prison and because of that in October the place offers paranormal tours. There are nice picnic areas and you can meet actors in period attire. It is easy to spend and enjoy whole day here. For birdwatchers - herons, egrets, ibises. There is a rookery on the island.

Nice pier to view the water and Delaware Memorial Bridge. They have a playground (but this day was rainy, so couldn't give opinion on that.) Nice historical structure (former railroad ticket booth) with explainer, would be nice if it were open. Parking on street, seemed adequate for a Saturday morning.

Fort Mott is a nice destination for the whole family. The Visitor Center was for some reason closed on this August weekend and website mistakenly stated the ferry was done for the season but local staff explained these are just mistakes of the central management in Trenton. Self-guided tour is recommended as it gets you to explore all the important elements of the history of this fort . There is nice picnic area available. Ferry to Pea Patch Island and Fort Delaware is a major attraction and it makes it for a very nice combined trip.

Delaware approved the Declaration of Independence in this building, which was constructed in 1732.
I had been to New Castle a few times but in the evening. On this trip, the court house was open, and I took the took. There is so much that happened here that made great contributions to America. A must see.

This beautiful cemetery periodically hosts annual Historic Ghost Tour of Salem County. The interesting graves include two and a half thousand graves of Confederate prisoners who died at Fort Delaware on Pea Patch Island. There is Confederate Monument and Union Monument on premises. You can find also World War II graves here as well.

I enjoy the productions at the Grand as well as The Playhouse of Rodney Square. Our recent events include Straight No Chaser and Rudolph the Musical. They offer something for everyone and every age. A trip to the Grand/Playhouse should be on everyone “to do” list.

The New Castle Farmer's Market offers a little of everything. From fresh fish, to fresh meats and cheeses, to fresh produce and baked goods. A great place to walk around on a rainy day as most of the market is indoors. We picked up a few souvenirs of chocolate toffee to take home. Also a great place to get breakfast, lunch or dinner to eat there or take home.

Live this mall, stopped at Cabelas first then into mall. They have the majority of the stores we like and if not its a short drive from there. Food court is also good and its surrounded by other food choices also.

Great family Park. Fun activities for the kids, stroll along the banks of the Delaware and watch the ships go by, Walk/run around the exercise trail. Take part in the many Park Scheduled Activities and Events... Like September Fest. A major local favorite. Suitable for EVERYONE. The Park is free. Perfect for those beautiful sunny days in the middle of winter too! Parking could be an issue on those last minute because it's beautiful out let's take the kids to the park. Since everyone may have the same idea. Otherwise parking during events, NO PROBLEM

A collection of American art from 1840 to the present.
This proved to be an exceptional cultural experience. The exhibits of art work and sculptures are world class. The museum is divided into several sections and numerous rooms. Each division exhibits different styles, mediums and or periods. The floor plan is easy to follow and the descriptions of the art are easy to understand as well. This is a great gem in the Wilmington area and a wonderful inside activity in inclement weather. There is also a cafe' to to grab a bite to eat right on site.
