10 Things to do in Palacio That You Shouldn't Miss

A walk with lots of art and without entering a museum. We enjoy seeing the exhibition and getting to know the artists, it is very nice and you can ask and order the painting you want.

The excellent audio guide was sufficient for exploring the palace without a guided tour The Palace was really impressive, the view from the Scenic viewpoint was breathtaking and the works of art inside were very antique and impressive; do make sure you include a visit to the armoury. Overall, the sheer splendour of the palace was breathtaking, every one of the rooms exquisite, and particularly the magnificent Throne Room. Well worth a visit

This street was one of the highlights of our trip to Madrid. It might only be a relatively short street but it’s one of the best. It’s a warren of tapas bars, with around 50 or so in the one small area. We started at one end and made our way along them, picking and choosing in a random sort of way. The street follows the curves of the original 12th-century city wall and in some of the bars like Posada del Dragon, you can still see remains of some of the wall. Our top three places were: 1. La Concha 2. Pousada del Dragon 3. Casa Luca La Concha was our absolute favourite. A tiny place full of character that served an amazing vermouth cocktail and complimentary tapas. They make their own vermouth which they sell at €12 a bottle. We left with our backpack clinking because we'd bought two. GETTING THERE: 5 min walk from Plaza Mayor

This museum of a bit off the beaten tourist path and well worth your time if you love history. It focuses on history in the Madrid area from prehistoric times until about when the Royal Court began calling Madrid home. You'll learn about a mammoth miracle, see the well where San Isidro performed his miracle, see relics from the time the Romans controlled Madrid, and much more. It is free to enter and the information is in Spanish and English. This is definitely somewhat of a hidden gem.

One of my favourite places in Madrid (also, one of my favourite European cities!) Just off from Plaza Mayor, this building has been upgraded from the old market hall and is now a modern and buzzing meeting place for locals and tourists alike! Full of small "stalls" that sell all kinds of food, drink and gifts/treats. Tables where you can stand and enjoy your purchases and enjoy this magnificent place. Go and spend a couple of hours there and soak up the incredible atmosphere and its such a great place for people watching. Cannot be beaten for a taste of real Spain!
