This sweep of beach rivals the best of Harris's creamy sands. On North Uist, the endless stretches are silvery white, dazzling on a sunny day. When the machair is out - the wild flower carpeted grass lands behind the beach - it is truly a photographer's paradise. The scent of the flowers is the scent of summer in the Hebrides. The Uists and Tiree form Scotland's finest Machair Islands, neighbouring Harris which I love too, has only small areas of machair in comparison. And bang next door to Lingeigh, a short walk over the dunes, lies equally stunning Hornish beach. The colour of the water is ever-changing, emerald, turquoise, opalescent....sunsets from here over Harris are gorgeous. The track down to the beach has got worse over the years and needs care if you are not to punch a hole in the sump though high clearance vehicles will be fine.

Inspired by the Atlantic coastline, I create unique stoneware ceramic sculptures and vessels from my Hebridean home on the Isle of North Uist. Natural beach-weathered sea fragments, abandoned at the high-tide line, provide some of the natural textures captured on the surface of the clay. Some pieces of work are enriched with locally gathered beach sands and rock sediments, which once fired in the kiln, transforms into rich warm chestnut tones, creating a truly unique Hebridean gift. The Gallery also exhibits original art works from several North Uist artists.

What a stunning place to visit.. Long way to travel but worth every minute. Great views over the beaches and sea. Machair in full bloom and swarming with all sorts of insects, plenty of bird life including the corncrakes which attracted lots of attention. I wish I could visit this beatifull place every year

Good walk on moorland and through forest. The highlight was seeing the carving of Hercules, his grave and reading all about him in a small wooden hut a short walk away.
