Their main focus is building preservation, folk music, instrument production and traditional folk costumes and textiles. The Valdres Museums consist of three museums and one burial place. The collection includes a total of 120 houses, 27.000 objects and 150.000 photos that form the basis for the knowledge and reflection about Valdres in the old days.
It was mid winter, and snow everywhere, but the museum was still open. The lass in charge actually opened some sections just for us to see, and she also put on a video of the beautiful musical instruments. The dolls dressed in National Costume were magnificent. The costumes hand made and intricate. We had an absolutely delicious lunch at the Munkekroen restaurant, then went to see the 100 or so regional houses from years gone by in the open air museum. It was a wonderful day out.
