There are hundreds of historical monuments and features in Nizhny Novgorod, each more beautiful and unique than the last. A red brick kremlin, stone cathedrals, a futuristic planetarium, medieval monasteries, a hyperboloid tower... Nizhny Novgorod seems to be a mashup of cultures, eras and technologies that all miraculously work in harmony to create an endearing urban landscape.

This is one of the best places to observe sunsets in the city. The amazing view on the two rivers and the “Strelka”, when Oka becames to Volga. Also you could see all down districts of the city with football stadium, Alexander Nevsky cathedral and “Yarmarka” (old fair’s building).

I live in NN and I love this zoo so much. First of all, there are a lot of different animals. Animals are really friendly and funny. You can buy some food and feed them here. P.S. But be careful with goats. They really like eating, so they can run after you to get some food.

Although I couldn't get into the bank I found the facade of the building quite impressive. Definitely worth seeing.

The pavilion of more than 1000 m2: interactive exhibits, optical illusions, amazing musical instruments, the mysterious mirror, the room with the broken gravity, intricate mazes, unexpected photo zone and much more. You’ll feel a dwarf and a giant, learn to play the water pipes, play on the strings of invisible harps, create your own world.

The top of this massive staircase behind the Chkalov Monument offers a great view of the Volga River.
A giant set of stairs, named for a soviet test pilot, whose statue is at the top. A great workout if you're climbing up

The town was definitely cleaned up for the Soccer World Cup and nowhere more so than this street. It features everything from small bars and cafes, to luxury designer shops. There are quite a few places to buy souvenirs if that is your thing, but in any case it is an exciting place to stroll on a Saturday evening. One thing that hasn’t adjusted since the World Cup are the prices, so go somewhere else if you want better value. The street leads straight through many of the main tourist attractions and is the commercial hub of the city. There is a lot of street art and some signs in English.

The Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, the monument of history and culture of the world. Erected in the early 16th century to protect the Eastern borders of the Russian state, he never surrendered to the enemy! It is at the walls of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin 400 years ago our countrymen at the call of Kuzma Minin joined forces for the expulsion of the invaders from Moscow.
Nizhny Novgorod was founded in of around 1221. The entire population could fit within the walled Kremlin, or capital, with several lookout and defensive towers. I am sure Nizhny Novgorod was attacked, but it does not appear to have been overtaken. The city also boasts one of the most striking tableaus of Nizhny Novgorod's addition to World War II, with and area for equipment constructed and used in the area. There is also a very powerful wall of soldiers lost in WWII. And down near the Volga River is an eternal flame for the unknown soldier. Very powerful. The views are beautiful and it is close proximity to city center.

I visited the Rukavishnikov Mansion on a beautiful sunny spring day. It is situated on a high bank of the Volga River. I took a guided tour. That is when you put on shoe covers and follow a guide telling you a story about each room. It is an interesting chance to see how the rich had lived before the Revolution. You cannot take photos in most of the rooms, however you can in the most spacious Ball-room.

Highly recommend this cable car ride high over the wide Volga River. Only 100 R each way for the ~30 min ride. Not much to see on the east side, but the nearby Chashka Cafe serves excellent soup and deserts.
