Espace Bernadette, where lies the intact body of Bernadette Soubirous will welcome you in the ancient convent where she lived for 13 years as a sister of Charity of Nevers. You will discover a highly renowned shrine visited each year by almost 200 000 pilgrims from all over the world. Surrounded by a 4 ha park, located right in the town centre of Nevers, Espace Bernadette provides accommodation, meals and activities for a stay or a time of retreat.
When we walked into the brasserie we met three people dressed in religious garments.
The 150 year anniversary of Bernadettes visitation by the Virgin Mary is in 2016 and preparations have already started.
I did not know she was buried in Nevers. A young boy gave us directions with much excitement.
As a girl I went to a catholic convent and St Bernadette was very special.
It is so difficult to look at her body as it lies serene and angelic encased in the coffin. She was a most humble peasant girl and the photographs of her in her youth in no way resemble how she looks now.
She is petite and her life of holy orders will have changed her appearance.
I am delighted we were led to this most peaceful resting place which is most befitting for such an honoured chosen human being.

Enter into the magic of this garden and let yourself be charmed by the colored and scented festival of the many varieties and species of trees, plants and flowers from all over the world. Your fairytale walk will be punctuated by Waterfalls, buildings and invitations to travel and to discover the talent of its fanciful designer, the great traveller and nature lover, Gilles de Brissac. The Park has been awarded the "Jardin Remarquable" label by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication.
The floral park is a wonderland of scent and colour. As you stroll around, you will see a splendid variety of trees and flowers. Open every day from late March to late September.

Nevers' Cathedral is unique in that its stained glass windows are modern, having been commissioned in recent times to replace the historical windows that were destroyed when a WWII Allied bomb accidentally hit the Cathedral. The old windows were not gothic stained glass but figured grisaille. The modern ones are beautiful and thematic and have explanations near each window of the theme. There is also in the church a life-sized "mise en tombeau" from the 16th century that is still polychromed, as almost all were originally. Lastly, in contrast to the modern stained-glass, there is a nearly intact 12th century fresco of Christ in Glory above the choir.

The chapel is not elaborate, however, you do get a feeling of solitude. Masses are said all day for different groups of pilgrims coming to visit the chapel. I visited Saint Bernadette in between pilgrim visits and was able to be one with her saying...MoreThank you to share this beautifull moment with us. Best Regards Julitte
