Nambucca Heads Island Golf Course on the Coffs Coast is a must do experience, the Ross Watson design creates a challenging experience in both layout and play. Australia’s only Island Golf Course venue is surrounded by the pristine Nambucca River with dolphins, birds and wildlife centre stage
Where else can you play golf with the dolphins swimming alongside the most picturesque fairways. You have the gorgeous aqua blue water of the Nambucca River flowing alongside as well. This is a top place to play golf. Friendly pro shop and staff and beautifully kept course by a caring club of members. The restaurant has beautiful hot rocks steaks on Thursday night and is great to sit and enjoy the view over the river at any time. You can even take your well behaved dog on a leash when you play a social game. A golden Australian gem.

The Nambucca Valley has different beaches to entice all. There are the well known surf beaches of Scotts Head and Valla, the patrolled beach of Nambucca Heads, fishing beaches and the child friendly beach at Gordon Park on the river(perfect for children). Shelly beach was voted in the top ten beaches in Australia a couple of years ago and has an ocean boat ramp as well as being very beautiful. Overall there are ten beaches in the Nambucca valley. Surfing, boating, fishing, paddleboards, canoeing, swimming and just lazing by the beach watching the dolphins play. This area has something for everyon and plenty of room to find yourself a quiet corner.

The Nyambagga Walking Trail is a coastal walk, worthwhile to see! We saw some great views! On our way, after we left the wooden stairs, there seemed to be sand on the path, but we couldn’t touch the sand, it was covered by a special material to keep the sand in place. Ingenious! Then we walked at a pier with rocks that were painted. Most of them were attractive. We could see the dunes perfectly. They were worthwhile! We walked on a beach with a view of a large attractive rock. What a great trek. This is a must see!

Well worth a stop off en route. There is easy parking and no hills or steps to climb. The views are 360 degrees and apparently you may be lucky enough to see whales and dolphins at the right time of year.

Another perfect feature of Nambucca Heads. This beach has everything - shelter in the southern cove, boat ramp, neat facilities block, and beauty in spades. Brought up with wild swimming and deep instinctive knowledge of the ocean, I detest nanny state stuff and avoid it. Not a megaphone in sight or sound. Perfect. But for those who rely on flags and our brave wonderful volunteer lifesavers this might be scary.
