The "Parc National de Volcans" (or PNV as it's known by locals) lies along the Virunga Mountains, with 8 ancient volcanoes, which are shared by Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Just a short two hour drive from Rwanda's capital of Kigali, the park is a central location for exploring some distinctly Rwandan experiences. While a visit to the mountain gorillas is often at the top of visitor, the dramatic landscape also offers thrilling hiking and visits to the fascinating golden monkeys.
This trip has been truly spectacular. Everything was well organised. Our guides, Eugene and Emmanuel were very knowledgable and witty, filling us with facts and stories on the Agashya gorilla family that we visited. Our porters were also very helpful as we went through muddy slopes in the jungle. I would definitely recommend hiring porters not only because they are helpful but also as a contribution to local economy. No words can express how amazing it was spending time with the gorillas in the wild and in such close proximity. Go see it for yourself!

As you visit Umuzabibu Mwiza, as seen on CNN African Marketplace in March 2019, witness firsthand this remarkable project and meet the women as they participate in the age old craft of spinning yarn from the fleeces of their own flock of Merino sheep. Using only hand tools and spinning wheels, discover how the women create organic yarn and dye it naturally with native plant materials such as cosmos petals, onionskins and eucalyptus leaves. After your tour, you will have an opportunity to purchase Handspun Hope yarn and hand knit products. We are certain you will find the perfect Handspun Hope keepsake to take home from your trip to Rwanda!
This is an amazing Center to visit and shop. This Center employs 123 women who have been marginalized and/or traumatized from the genocide. They are now gainfully employed using their amazing artistry and skills to produce beautiful products using yarn that they themselves have spun, dye and knit from. The local plants found on the grounds of this amazing place is a sight to see. Flowers, leaves and various seeds including avocado can found on the property from which the "expert dyers" use to turn raw merino wool into brilliant color palettes of pinks, orange, yellows, gold and many more. Some of the women are expert in knitting and some are expert in felting. You will be awestruck when you see the beautiful garments and felted animals that have been crafted by these " artisans hands". I also had the pleasure of visiting the " rabbit habitat" where angora rabbits are raised and sheared for their angora fibers, also used to make sweaters. This is a place you will want to visit and experience for yourself to see the amazing talents of women who have a dark past but are living a life reflective of a bright hopeful future. Many thanks to the Founder and Country Director for their vision and commitment in making this a wonderful place for these women to heal.

I cannot believe my travel agent didn’t put this on my travel agenda. It was a last minute, this place has good reviews, I should check it out. Oh my this is a MUST DO!!!! I learned so much and was entertained and why does everyone is Rwanda treat visitors like a cross between the Queen of England and Beyoncé. I felt so welcome every single place I went. I was there during Covid and the covid protocols might be a hassle but it was so incredibly safe and comfortable there and people compiled and I never felt one second unsafe but some of the activities are modified. Even with the modified activities here, no banana beer tasting, it was SO MUCH FUN and educational. I would have missed out on so much history and understanding of Rwanda itself and their conservation efforts if I had not made this visit. Highest recommendation. Ask you travel agent to include it!!!!!

A very nice hike to discover the story of Dian Fossey. The trail is muddy but not very difficult. Our guide (provided with the permit at the park) was really interesting. We were lucky and we saw a gorilla from far away.
