The Kobuntei is in the park and one has to pay a small entrance fee. After taking ones shoes off, you follow the signs and so see all accessible spaces. Certainly worth a visit.

Also known as the Tokiwa garden, this land was originally a plum orchard belonging to Tokugawa Nariakira. Converted into public property in 1840 and renamed Kairakuen, this park is now recognized as one of the top three gardens in Japan.
We took a train to Mito station and walked along Senba lakeside to Kairakuen Park. You could also take a bus there if you choose not to walk. It was a pleasant walk in spring. Although cherry blossoms were not at the peak, plum blossoms were in full bloom and the park was a fairyland of colours. It was enjoyable to walk around the park and very doable. We took a bus back to Mito station after our visit.

We had a nice, cool and pleasant walk along the lakeside of Senba lake in early spring. Cherry blossoms had just started to bloom and not at their peak yet but plum blossoms were just after the peak. Good recommended walk here. Can see many locals walking or jogging for exercise.

Art Tower Mito (ATM), symbolized by the 100-meter-tall metal tower that stands in its plaza, is a comprehensive cultural facility divided into three sections: a concert hall, a theater, and a gallery for contemporary art. Having opened in 1990 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mito's designation as an official city, the ATM complex has served as the venue for a wide variety of planned events, including musical concerts, dramatic productions, and art exhibitions featuring both Japanese and foreign artists. In addition, it has broadened the scope of its mission to act as a base for locally-produced cultural activities. In the future, ATM will continue to be a locus of creative activities, transmitting artistic culture from Mito to the rest of the world.

The Museum of Modern Art, Ibaraki was opened in1988.It is located by the side of Senba Lake, inside the Senba pubric garden, whith continues from Kairakuen Park, one of the most wonderful park in Japan. The building was harmonized with the surrounding scenery through its roof of copper plates of blue-green, and an outer wall which consists of brown natural stones. We have a special exhibition gallery and a permanent colletion gallery,an Art Forum corner where one can enjoy images of various fine-arts works,a museum shop, and a restaurant. In addition,we have the Atelier of NAKAMURA Tsune who was an talented oil painter from Mito on the south side of our museum. The Atelier has been newly renovated, and his artifacts and documents are exhibited to the public. Please enjoy fine-arts freely in the calm atmosphere.
