Eustis Estate Museum

The Eustis Estate is currently offering guided tours on a reduced schedule. Advanced tickets required and can be purchased on the website

WOW! Don't think of this as a typical "museum" where you walk around and look at artifacts-under-glass. This is similar to the Newport Mansion tours where you wander through the opulent interior of an original 1880's mansion. More like a walking-tour of Downton Abby. The guided tour provides detailed background stories of the original residents and their servants ... add a little of your imagination and you have a time-travel experience. Highly recommended but probably for teens or older.

A lovely small natural museum there are many displays and activities for younger visitors. This museum has several live animals in the building as well as in the grounds behind it. It is a great way to learn about local wild life plant and animal.

I have been visiting this beautiful park for over fifty years, and I'm still finding new parts of the park to see and explore. This is definitely the best park in the greater Boston area for hiking, and leaf-looking in the fall, with miles of trails, varying from carriage roads to rocky climbs. The Skyline Trail, a tough rocky trail, was recently voted by Conde Nast's Traveler's magazine as among one of the best twenty-six fall hiking trails in the US. This trail can be strenuous, as the name implies, and requires good hiking skills, and a recommended walking stick, but it is well worth the effort. The Skyline trail goes up down the hills in the park, culminating at the top of the Great Blue Hill, at over 630 feet the highest coastal hill on the Atlantic south of the state of Maine. In the summer Houghton’s Pond, in the park, is a popular swimming area. The park also has many sizable picnic areas, and is very popular in the summer months. Plenty of parking, and a snack bar is sometimes open in the summer.

Forbes House Museum

Reviewed By houselover1997 - Gloucester, United States

This Museum was the home of the Forbes family who were engaged in the China Trade. The grounds are lovely with a pollinator garden and the Garden of Infinite Pleasantness. There is a story walk for kids and families. The house tour is interesting but not coodinated. Most of the house has Chinese export furnishings. There are several sets of porcelain. The bathrooms are original and have tubs encased in wood. Lots of curiosities. There is also a Greek Revival Barn and a Peabody and Sterns carriage house and stable. Well worth a visit.
