I really liked this place. It really is very beautiful and peaceful. We went with a range of ages including kids from 7-15 but we all enjoyed it. Not much to do except enjoy the scenery; ramble about; eat picnics and generally relax - but that is it's charm.

Blue Sky Balloons

Reviewed By mets_gator - Yorktown Heights, New York

My wife had "won" a balloon-ride gift certificate at a charity silent auction quite a while ago and Bill Hughes (the pilot/owner of Blue Sky Balloons) was very accommodating in scheduling the ride after the expiration date. Customer service is very important and Bill did us right! We scheduled the ride for sunrise on October 22. I thought this might be late for the fall colors, but with the warm September and the drought, the colors were a few weeks late this year (2015). We ended up catching the leaves in their glorious peak (check out the photos!). Sprout Creek Farm (Noxon Road/Taconic Pkwy.) is a beautiful starting point and we drifted North up to Millbrook during the one-hour flight (7am arrival at farm, we returned at 9:30am). We could see the Mid-Hudson Bridge to the West and the Hudson Valley gap in the Appalachians/Hudson Highlands to the South. The ride was spectacular and quite memorable (we even saw a rainbow from the balloon!). Bill was knowledgable and very professional (and also tolerant of my non-stop photo-taking!). I would not hesitate to go up again with Bill. Wear sneakers, jeans and comfortable clothes. Bring a camera and enjoy the ride!!!

We look forward to our visits to Lilymoore Farm. It is such a treat to see the Alpacas (the highlight!), horses, chickens, ducks. We have been to Lilymoore Farm several times and enjoy spending time with, feeding, walking and learning about the Alpacas. There are about 18 Alpacas and 3 baby Alpacas are coming in the next few months! Diana is great. All the Alpacas have names and Diana knows all of their personalities! We are regular visitors and love to feed and walk the Alpacas. We are very fortunate to live nearby. I highly recommend you make the trip to visit Lilymoore Farm... it makes for a great destination if you don't live nearby.

The Book Booth: America's Littlest Library

On September 3rd, 2011 "The Book Booth: America's littlest library" opened in Clinton Corners, NY - A refurbished 1960s 3'x3'x8'4" British Phone Booth that houses 150 used books, 2 thin visitors at a time, uses no electricity, no plumbing and with a motion sensor light that is powered by a tiny solar panel on the roof... everything about this mini library is green, except the color. Thanks to David & Jeanie Bean who have loaned their phone box to the local library. It is an official branch of the Clinton Community Library, Friends of Library maintain the booth year round. The Red English Phone Box is genuine! Though, not the traditional kind often seen in movies and in England, this is a K-8 model. Industrial Designer Bruce Martin vision for the tradional Red Phone Box won and it his design that was used during the 1960s. 11,000 were produced and as of 2011, only 12 are still in use today in UK. We'd like to add to that number and think that 13 are in perfect working order...though, not used in its true intention, the Book Booth certainly works hard at keeping people connected by way of the written word.In fact, if you plan on making a visit, try to bring a book to "readcycle" as the loose policy is 'take a book/leave a book'. If you don't have a book to share, please feel free to take one anyways and remember to pass it on to someone else. Childrens books are located in the baskets on the floor so the little ones can rummage through whilst Mom & Dad look at the bounty on the shelves.

This is a small-town preserve, which began in 2004 by offering a single short hike, ending at the Dover Stone Church — an extraordinary cave-like natural formation. This is one of my favorite short hikes and friends are always impressed by the 30-foot waterfall cascading into pool of water inside the cave and that flows through and then out of the cavern entrance.

We stopped by earlier this month and enjoyed several of the trails and did a bit of trail maintenance.

The original Stone Church Cave Trail (0.2 mile from trailhead, pink blaze) -- easy but wet -- wear boots.

Red Trail (1.0 mile, loop from trailhead).

Yellow Trail (1.0 mile, loop from trailhead).

Blue Trail (1.5 mile, out-and-back from trailhead).

Soukup Farms

Soukup Farms is a third generation family farm, producing and selling pure New York Maple Syrup. Started as a hobby in the early 1950's the operation expanded to 800 taps in the 1990's and today has more than 2,000 taps in two sugarbushes. With a renewed interest in the maple production process the third generation of syrup producers has moved to a new sugarhouse and is actively expanding the business.

Orvis Sandanona Shooting Grounds: Sporting Clays, Shooting Lessons, Fly Casting Lessons, Corporate Outings, Fly Fishing and Wing Shooting Schools, Retail Store, lunch restaurant, and more

Reviewed By Oliver S - New York City, New York

I remember shooting SC here years ago, when it was one of the premium outlets for this sport, comparable to such high end venues as Pintail Point down in MD and Addieville RI. So, I got excited when a friend from CT called to invite me to a shoot there and did not think anything of the two hours drive from the City to reach Sandanona. The two hours drive back looked like four, given the disappointing visit and shoot. They had some kind of event, so only few of the stations were open. But that was not the main problem. The place looks falling apart: the only “hip” area is the shop where they peddle modern Orvis clothing. But that's not why you go to a Sporting Clay outfit. Some of the stations looked so antique, I was afraid they'd fall down while we are climbing them. The traps are still not automated! Thus, they assure employment for an army of trappers which makes them the most expensive SC venue I have visited, and I've shot in every state of the nation. Everything is extra, even if you are member. Huge gratuity is expected on top of high rates. I know they also offer hunting but have no opinion on how good that is, I only found out that the area they hunt on is not that big and prices are very high. For my money, I'd rather go to Mid Hudson SC in New Paltz. Oh, and did I tell you about the bugs? An Army of bugs, no less.
