Besides the murals all other decoration is also by the multitalented artist - red velvet chairs, metal lamps resembling flowers, leopard carpet and the obligatory Marianne in all French wedding halls, this one a young Brigitte Bardot reflecting endlessly on opposite mirrors. There is a taped English language introduction giving the basic facts, but the live French presentation every Thursday costing 4 euros has all the juicy parts. After redesigning the Mayors office in the building formerly functioning as a casino Cocteau was asked to do the wedding hall but refused instantly. He only changed his mind when his former lover, legally known as his adopted son fell in love with a woman and wanted to marry her. The characters in the murals depict all the strong feelings this caused.

A must stop for anyone visiting Me ton, especially if you enjoy visiting churches. I stopped in to St. Michel Basilica as I was passing by on a self guided walking tour. The resin anting church bells beckoned me, so I went in. It was a Sunday morning and although I could not understand very well, the language of the service the opening hymn was a familiar tune. It was a blessing to visit; such a beautiful church!

Experiment garden, greenhouse with rare plants, it houses beautiful collections of palm trees, bamboos, citrus-fruit, edible tropical plants, that is all together over 1400 species. Running at the same time as Nice Carnival (see my review about it and try to go if you can for an unforgettable experience) - during February and beginning of March, this is a unique and truly spectacular event. Each year has a different theme. This year's was Bollywood. Just picture a full-sized elephant, Taj Mahal, huge figure of Shiva and other beautiful installations - ENTIRELY made of lemons and oranges, each fruit carefully wrapped around with an elastic band and attached to the structure. I couldn't stop wondering of how many tons of fruit have been used!! Book tickets in advance, look out for an online promotion on the event website to book 2 events at the reduced rate for both Parade and Garden Exhibition - works out 8.50 Euro/pp per event. Do not miss the garden of lights (separate tickets at 13 Euro/pp) in the evening between 20:30 and 22:30, last entrance at 22:00 but come earlier, it's breathtakingly beautiful, you won't be able to stop yourself taking lots of photos. We spent an hour there. See the gardens in both day and night time. In the evenings the installations are illuminated and there is music, performances, refreshments and local citrus-themed produce. Everyone was so friendly and helpful - it was a heartwarming experience.

Pretty town with fabulous promenade to enjoy the warm sun, deep blue sea, light blue sky and stretches of golden sand. Given the location adjacent to Italy, Menton shares many similarities with the charming towns along the Italian Riviera down to Cinque Terre and beyond and yet a fraction of the tourists. The walk from Menton to Monte Carlo is not too strenuous and offer wonderful views. Easily accessible by train and bus from Nice and Monte Carlo. Definitely worth adding to list of French Riviera experiences.
