Chautauqua Institution is a community on the shores of Chautauqua Lake in southwestern New York state that comes alive each summer with a unique mix of fine and performing arts, lectures, concerts, interfaith worship and programs, and recreational activities. Over the course of nine weeks, more than 100,000 visitors will stay at Chautauqua and participate in programs, classes and community events for all ages-all within the beautiful setting of a historic lakeside village.
This town/campus is special. The setting, architecture, amenities, and landscaping are worth a visit, which will cost around $20 for half a day. On Sunday afternoon, you can stroll the grounds for free. We bought tickets to a show at the amphitheater which enabled us to enter the grounds just before 4 PM. We went to a lecture, had a drink at the hotel, and dinner at the cafeteria-style restaurant before attending the show ("The Capitol Steps". We enjoyed the entire experience.

The world’s largest Spiritualist community.
This review doesn't cover the validity of spiritualism/mediums, but it covers something just as important: the utterly dismal (lady) restrooms!! I was utterly shocked--SHOCKED--that a site that attracts thousands of people every year has pitiful restrooms! There is no excuse for this. First of all, there's only a handful of places for this wide area. Most have only 2 stalls. The stalls are tiny--there's NO WAY most of them can accommodate a wheelchair, even a walker. Also, people who weigh more than 100 pounds will find themselves bumping their noses on the stalls' doors and hitting the sides of the stalls and even the toilets themselves. How can this be? With the wide variety of people who come to Lily Dale, certainly a number of them need a MUCH WIDER suitable restroom stall! In addition, some places have only cold water. Some doors don't close properly. The best I found (and it was still wanting) were the two restrooms (used by both genders) at the fire hall. With all the money brought in by gate fees alone, devote a portion of it to the desperately needed upgrade of restrooms. THOUSANDS of visitors will GREATLY appreciate it!!!!!!!! Frankly, I personally would much prefer using a port-a-john, even going outside, in the woods!!
Yes, they are THAT bad!!

What a nice way to spend a few hours on Chautauqua lake with interesting information presented by the captain during the tour. The view was so beautiful but I especially appreciated all the info about the lake and the area.Thank you so much for this review! We can't wait to have you back on board again next summer!

Our 2016 Pricing, Operational Calendar and other information is available on our webpage and our our facebook page. Please note that on all normal operating days, the rides close from 3-3:30 pm; the arcade and concessions will remain open during this time. Located on the shores of beautiful Chautauqua Lake, Midway State Park is a family treasure. Originally established in 1898 as a trolley park, Midway State Park is one of the oldest continually operating amusement parks in the nation. The first owners of the park constructed playing fields, tennis courts, bath houses and a dance hall to entice customers to ride the trolley on weekends. In 1915, a new building was constructed with a kitchen, a large dining room and space for dancing and roller skating. Today, this building is home to a museum, gift shop, concession stands and other facilities. Midway State Park continues to offer the same family friendly atmosphere that visitors have come to love. Patrons can take a nostalgic ride on the vintage carousel, play a game of mini golf, take a spin on the tilt-a whirl, ride the go-karts and bumper boats or watch their children enjoy themselves on the many kiddie rides. And, while some may prefer to relax while enjoying an old fashioned candy apple or cotton candy, others can test their skills at classic midway games. Several picnic shelters are available for family reunions and company picnics. Accessible by the waters of Chautauqua Lake, Midway also is a great place for fishing and free docking is offered for day visitors. Household pets only, must be caged or on a leash no more than 6 feet and have proof of rabies inoculation. No pets in public buildings or in the amusement area.
Our nephews loved Midway State Park - the rides are classics and everything is designed for the younger child. Midway is very clean and all the rides appear well maintained and in excellent shape. Recommend!

Explore a half-mile long ridge of 60-foot high rock forming crevices, passageways, and caves hidden in an ancient forest! Located just 15 minutes from Chautauqua Lake, Panama Rocks is one of the top-rated attractions in Chautauqua County based on independent reviews on TripAdvisor. The Panama Rocks formations are surrounded by a one mile long hiking trail, but most guests enjoy going off of the main trail to explore! Visitors spend anywhere from one hour to the entire day having fun and exploring the park. Picnic tables are available. The trail is relatively easy to hike (Class 1) and guests of all ages enjoy it, but there are roots, rocks, and uneven ground; it is still a hiking trail! Plan your trip to explore one of the most fun and popular "things to do" in Western New York today!
Such a find! Just a beautiful area to climb rock formations and nature discoveries. There's an actual mile long path to walk without doing any climbing but we never made it onto the path. We were too busy climbing! Very friendly atmosphere. Everyone helped everyone! So much rich color.......I can only imagine what it looks like in autumn.

Being from the Finger Lakes Wine Country Katie did an excellent pouring experience for us as drop in’s on one of the busiest weekends of their season. The wine is on the spot for the palette for an honest estate winery. I enjoyed the reds and my wife enjoyed the whites and Port. . When in the Lake Erie Trail, this is The stop. Ask for Katie in the weekends.

this is a simply terrific little nine-hole golf course, well-maintained, with a view of Lake Chautauqua from almost every hole... signature hole is the eighth, a preciptious drop of some 50 yards into what looks, at first, like an island in the lake... nice personnel, reasonable prices, lacking only in adequate post-round food and drink... that is, there is some, but quite mundane

Located on US Route 20 in Portland, NY between Westfield and Brocton, this new winery was built among grape vineyards and cherry orchards which provides a beautiful backdrop to enjoy a glass of finely-crafted wine. The winery, which opened in September 2011 has a wide variety of wines to choose from including dry, semi-sweet and sweet wines - something for everyone's palette.
We stopped at 21 Brix to taste some wine. There is a small fee of 3 wines for $1. The server was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the different wines. She made the wine tasting fun. Our favorites were Marquis, Ella's White and Thirsty...MoreHi! Thanks for the great review of our winery, 21 Brix. We're so glad you stopped and enjoyed the wine tasting, slushies in addition to our spacious outdoor seating with a view of the vineyard and cherry orchard. Hope to see you back here soon!

UNFORTUNATELY, The Grape Discovery Center was CLOSED when we paid a visit on Wednesday, October the 4th 2017. Nonetheless, I did a photo shoot of the exterior of the center and surrounding exterior features in order to enhance this Trip Advisor attraction listing. Several other visitors also arrived expecting the center to be open. From the exterior, it is a most attractive place. Right next to a large vineyard it is in a very nice setting with an outdoor area for visitors to sit and enjoy the center weather permitting. Looking through the windows the gift shop looked to be excellent.

my son has a boat and loves to come here to eat or just hang out and have a drink. meanwhile, their children who are under 11 are able to fish off the dock and they love it here. you can be served either in your boat, inside or outside. the food is okay but the facilities and view are more the reason for coming.
