10 Things to do in Maidstone That You Shouldn't Miss

September 21, 2021 Leida Jutras

Maidstone is a large, historically important town in Kent, England, of which it is the county town. The River Medway runs through the centre of the town, linking it with Rochester and the Thames Estuary. Historically, the river carried much of the town's trade as the centre of the agricultural county of Kent, known as the Garden of England. There is evidence of settlement in the area dating back before the Stone Age. The town, part of the borough of Maidstone, had a population of 107,627 people in 2011. There has been a shift in the town's economy since the Second World War away from heavy industry towards light industry and services.

Considered one of the most romantic castles in England, this historic site was originally the stately home of the Saxon royal family during the reign of Ethelbert IV in 856-860.

Absolutely lovely all round, the staff are very polite friendly and knowledgeable, the gardens and grounds are beautiful, the castle is very interesting there's a visual display showing how it was and how it changed over the years, the falconry/bird show is very good then you can go face to face with the birds behind the maze, the children's play areas look good but we did not have kids with us so didn't go inside them, boat ride and train ride ok, less mobile folk will love the land train from car park to near the castle.

This is a great place to visit for all ages. We had a lovely walk around the park and the woods. My son loved running in and out of the trees, a perfect place for hide and seek. The play area is fab, different slides, climbing equipment and swings. There is also play equipment scattered around the park making it even more exciting.

Teston Bridge Country Park

Reviewed By mudzote1

Spent about 2 hours here. Had a picnic on one of the benches firstly. Afterwards we walked into the meadow area. We saw highland cows and horses which you can get up close to as they roam around freely. Walked alongside the river to the weir, locks and then towards the bridge and back to the main grassy area. Our dog enjoyed it here also. It isn’t a big country park but it is still enjoyable for a stroll.
