Maverick Horseback Riding offers unique trails with a horsemanship approach by reservation from one of our Austin-based locations. We have amazing water crossings, hilly pastures, parks and even a country road with some neighborhood buffalo roaming around. Riders will learn about horsemanship and safety, and the importance of riding in a way that will increase the safety of the rider AND the happy working life of the horse. It's not just about hopping on a horse and bouncing around, it's about learning how to give back to the animals who give so much to us. This unique lesson-based approach has been a big hit with our one-time and regular riders, who enjoy a variety of beautiful and challenging trails for riders of all skill levels and ages.
I was in town for business with my lady coworkers and we wanted to do a group activity. We had riders from 0-20 years experience and all had a super time. Joan Marie catered to all experience levels and made the entire process (from getting...MoreBostonbellisima THANK YOU for taking the time to write a review about your lesson with us. Mixed groups with various riding levels will find we do know how to challenge each individual. I appreciate your kind words.

We offer a family friendly gun/shooting range with over 200 firearms for rent. Come out and have fun and dont forget your valid ID. We are close to Austin. come out and spend a day in Lockhart to shoot and eat some award winning BBQ.
Nice place to shoot. Polite and friendly personnel (unlike many other ranges manned by obnoxious dolts with chips on their shoulders)! Office area is super clean, but individual ranges could use some sprucing up. In spite of this I'm considering a membership. One year's membership is $100 ... a real bargain compared to other ranges.

Small park set in hilly terrain; best known for it's golf course.
Nice assortment of ecosystems from creek bottom forest to hill country forest. Good selection of trees, flowers, birds, butterflies and easy to see deer and armadillos. About a 2 hour walk around the whole park. However once off the access road the trails are poorly marked and I ended up on private property for a bit. Golf course and pool look well maintained. Please do the same for the trails.

The jail operated until rather recently. Have the staff explain how it was laid out when the jailer's family lived downstairs. Several rooms contain artifacts that provide insight into life in central Texas cattle country during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Small admission charge. Knowledgeable staff. Good for older kids and adult. Worth an hour.

I stopped by to admire the outside of the building because I am a bit of an architect nerd. It is a very unusal shap which I have never seen before. It is very much in theme with the castle ambience the town has.

Old Texas style bar in 121-year-old building just off the historic courthouse square. Full bar; beer & wine too. Steeped in history, The PEARL's location has had a bar in it for over 77 years. Live music most Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays. Voted "Best Bar" in Caldwell County 2017.
I had a great Bloody Mary !!! We had been across the street for dinner and noticed the new place so we popped in. The bartender was very nice and made us some great drinks. I was very surprised to see Chicharones as munchies on...MoreJanice-- Thank you for visiting The PEARL. So glad you liked the Bloody Mary. And yes the Chicharones are so good, they are addictive. This was on my list of things to do in the town and I am so very happy that I stopped by. David and his wife were absolutely wonderful. I was shown the back room where the hats are made and David even did a demo for us! This store is one of the last hat makers in the country and it is evident by the pictures on his walls of famous people that he is very good at his trade. The store does have in stock a few standard hats, which I did buy, but the true art is having a custom hat made especially for you there. The technology is 1920's old school and is a beautiful hat when finished. I was shown many examples of their work.... yes, I said "their work" because both David and his wife make hats. It has been handed down through the generations. It is such a unique experience to stop in this store. Go see ... go experience because I had a wonderful time!

We love this theater. We live in Austin, and all of the local theaters, except Mary Moody Northern theater, keep doing "preach the gay agenda" shows which are not safe for children. The purpose of a theater company is to entertain. Gaslight Baker Theater does amazing shows with professional quality acting and sets and excellent scripts. As word continues to get out I think you will see more families making the short 30 minute drive to come to this theater. We are truly blessed to have a theater that understands the value of, and public demand for, clean entertainment. Great job people! Can't wait for the next show!

My husband and I enjoy walking around antique stores when on vacations. We found this gem by accident on our way to enjoy great Texas BBQ in Lockhart. The store is huge and has almost anything you would be interested in-old, new, vintage, slightly used, jewelry, clothing, pottery, glassware, etc. The owner has a wealth of knowledge and can help you find what you are looking for or keep an eye out for it. And she also makes some GREAT cheesecakes for special occasions!
