The ferry is inexpensive, boards quickly, crosses the river in a few minutes and then off one goes. I have only done this in good weather and warm months. It is nice to see the river and relax a bit.

Morven Park was once the home of Virginia governor, Westmoreland Davis, and his wife Marguerite. More than 70 years after his death, the accomplishments and ideals of Gov. Davis still resonate within the 1,000 acres of this one-of-a-kind place. Each year 150,000 people visit the Park, whether participating in its competitive equestrian events, touring its three museums, attending educational and recreational programs, or just enjoying the beauty of the woodlands, mountainous ridge, historic buildings, and formal gardens. Summer tour hours for Morven Park's three museums are Thursday, Friday,Saturday, and Monday 12p.m.-5p.m. and Sunday 12p.m-5p.m. Starting September 1st, the museums will be open to the public Saturdays and Sundays 12:00 - 5:00, with the last tour starting at 4:00 pm. The historic gardens, Turkey Hill Farm, hiking trails, equestrian center and athletic complex are open every day. Operated by the Westmoreland Davis Memorial Foundation, Morven Park is a non-profit organization, relying on individual donations, memberships, and event income to finance its public programs and preservation of its historic and natural resources.
We did not have time to take the tour of the imposing mansion but we enjoyed a long walk around the grounds, admiring the well kept (though hardly extensive) gardens, and visiting the equestrian center. I was particularly impressed with the gorgeous trees all over the property and the arboreal pathways passing beneath many of them. Hiking trails in the woods and hills behind the mansion were inviting. It was interesting to view the various types of cross-country steeplechase jumps, each different in design and all seemingly quite unyielding and challenging to the horse and rider. Morven Park has good interior roadways, ample parking, clean and substantial restroom accommodation.

Traditionally I have been visiting Fabbioli Cellars on Saturday morning first thing, but I think Sunday may be the time to go as it was significantly less crowded. There were no cars in the lot when my friend and I arrived at 11:30, save a oversized van in the bus lot. The van group took up one whole tasting bar inside that there was a couple at the third bar. We paid for our tastings and were shown to the second bar in. Our server was knowledgeable and very friendly, guiding my friend through the wines as it was her first visit. The tasting bites were thanksgiving themed and were well paired with the wines. My friend loved the place and I will continue to bring friends and families here as it is the best winery in Northern VA.

Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets is more than just a great collection of the finest designer labels and name brands, it is the area's only upscale outlet center. Include a shopping stop during your next trip to the nation's capitol. Located 35 miles from Washington D.C. and 17 miles west of Dulles International Airport, you're sure to find impressive savings of 25% to 65% all year round. Local Shop & Stay packages are available.
Visiting the outlets at times can be challenging, but I seem to have gotten into a good rhythm regarding the times I pick to visit. This time, I got there just as they opened on a cold Saturday, right before we were suppose to get some snow. The parking was great and there were not many people wandering around. Even as I headed out, it still wasn't too crowded. The only issue is that there really are no new stores and pretty much the same deals as always.

Flew in from the west coast and wanted to take some time wine tasting in what is suppose to be the 4th biggest wine producing state. We walked in and Susie greeted us for our wine tastings. She was very knowledgeable of the winery and it’s offerings and very friendly. Stone Tower is a beautiful stop with nice scenery. We tasted several really good wines and even order some to be shipped home. Come to this great winery and enjoy.

A poignant and sobering reminder of a disastrous Union defeat during the Civil War.
This is one of the must visit civil war sites, but was poorly presented. There's a variety of colored trails which do not correspond to the trails in the trail map. We spent awhile trying to figure it all out, then gave up. We wandered around for awhile and the area was interesting, just poorly presented.

Stopped today for a tasting with our friends and we had the pleasure of meeting Bonnie. She is so friendly and informative. It was a very comfortable, cozy, tasting. We will definitely go back again.

When Jonathan Staples launched Black Hops Farm in 2014 the goal was to provide local hops to Virginia’s thriving alcohol industry. This would not only support the beverage industry but also local agriculture by promoting further hop farming. With an emphasis on hops it was a no brainer that a brewery belonged on the farm. Thus, Vanish Farmwoods Brewery was born! Vanish resides on the 53 acre Black Hops Farm in beautiful Lucketts, Va. With the use of local ingredients we focus on bringing you beer that is plant to pint and seed to sip. We offer up to 20 beers on tap at a time in our massive Taproom. We boast plenty of outdoor space with scenic views. Come see us and don’t miss out on our Mega Flight of 12 tasters or our Gigaflight of 24 tasters!
Good parts - scenic setting, easy parking, and lots of space BEFORE 1 p.m.
We arrived at 1230 and Vanish Farmwoods Brewery was definitely busy. As the clocked ticked the crowds rolled in with strollers, toddlers, grand parents, birthday parties, and dogs. By 2:30 pm the food and drink lines were long and slow. By 3pm the place was at capacity and there way too many kids running around mostly unsupervised. For example, we had a foot ball crash into our INDOOR patio table from a gaggle of kids. Someone at another table who saw the mess called it Chuckee Cheese for parents who want a beer. Food was average, but the long lines for everything (after 1pm) (food, drink, rest rooms, and closing your tab) make the visit a grind. The craft beer was ok but not exciting compared to other local Virginia Breweries. BTDT will not return.
Tip - go during the week or before 1p.m.

While animals are the main attraction, and range from petting zoo types to giant tortoises, zebras, camels, and other smaller indoor reptiles and mammals, there's just a lot in general to do here with small kids. Two large hill slides, multiple outdoor play structures, a short tractor-pulled wagon ride, a pony ride, and a huge indoor play structure (w/a trampoline!) and soft toddler play area that is as nice as any I've been to (including ones with twice the admission price just for the play structure/toddler room). If you think of it more as a farm-meets-nature-center rather than a zoo, you'll have the right idea. We easily spent 3 hours here between listening to animal talks/demos and all the other activities. But remember to bring hats and sunscreen if it's a sunny day; other than indoors, there's not a lot of shade.
