I selected Cantrell based on It's TripAdvisor reviews, and I'm so glad I did. I had only rafted once before, many many years ago, so I would call myself a beginner. Our guide Eddie made us feel very comfortable, and his 28 years of experience was evident in his expertise and confidence on the river. Every member of the staff that we had the pleasure to meet was super friendly and helpful. Our ride down the river was a blast and I look forward to doing it again, definitely with Cantrell.

My sister and her husband were in for a family reunion from Colorado. I drove them to Hawks Nest and we had a great time walking around and looking at all the beauty there. If you have the chance to stop there and walk or hike you won't regret it. I will be back this fall for the foliage.

New & Gauley River Adventures

Small Company. Big Adventure.

Fantastic experience. Laid back but very competent guides. Two on site bars with craft beer. Free PBR on the return drive after rafting. Best for adults, couples, groups of friends who can appreciate a social night life. A truck or SUV is best if you plan to camp in the wooded area. Some cars with low clearance will drag on the road through that area. We did the reverse gauley two day trip. It was a $200 per person saving compared to other outfitters so this company is very affordable. Hoagie was our guide for both days of rafting and has a very relaxed guiding style. He also has a well developed knowledge of local civil battles, especially battles led by General J. Jameson.

I went with my son for a father son outing and it was fantastic. Staff is amazingly helpful, facilities rustic but good, and the cost is very fair! We are going back for a longer visit next fall!
This is a great way to "hang" with family, have fun, and be treated very well.

Canyon Rim Visitor Center

The new river. What a story, what a river. Starts here, at one of the best visitor centers I have been to...Gettysburg is still tops, but this place is close. The views of the largest single arch steel bridge is worth the stop. The quick history lesson about the bridges is bonus. The easy hikes, brings it all together. What a bridge. The Rangers could have been a little friendlier...but he was busy, and was still able to be quite informative. Kids loved it...early teen girls. Restrooms were clean...which is always key....and great gift shop. Really enjoyed it and if you are visiting West Virginia, take a drive here. Worth it...wish we had time to ride the Rapids

This one-two mile hike is an awesome trail to show you just incredible views of the gorge....then make your way down this steel ladder, where you do a crazy rock scramble where you run into caves and views of the cliff walls are mind blowing. The photo op at the point...once in a life time photo. Speechless. Words are not enough. 900 feet up from the river...straight down...over a rock...amazing

Epic Escape Game New River Gorge

The concept is simple: You and your team will be placed in a themed room where you have 60 minutes to find clues, solve puzzles and complete the mission or escape the room before your time is up. Play with your family, friends or co-workers and see if you have what it takes to make an Epic Escape.

My employer set this up as a team building experience. I was skeptical, being such a claustrophobic, afraid I would not be able to "get out". Being a team member I sucked it up and went. The owner Eric was there to welcome us and give us a breakdown on what to expect. First we did a few activities to kind of figure out our personalities and how well we worked together as a team. Then Eric filled us in on our adventure of stopping a runaway train and what we would have to accomplish to stop it. He led us to "the train" and so it began. I have to say it was the most fun I had experienced in a long time. Not once did I feel closed in. We all worked together and shared a lot of laughs. We did need those clues but we were able to stop the train and escape in plenty of time. I highly urge everyone to go see Eric and his team and have a wonderful time!!!
