Delectable dim sum, floating islands, and a one-of-a-kind skyline are just some of Hong Kong’s unique features. Get an eyeful of traditional Chinese architecture in Ngong Ping village, then take the tram to the tippity-top of Victoria Peak for unparalleled views. The rocks and gentle hills of Nan Lian Garden will bring you inner peace, as will a calming cup of tea in a Stanley café. Become one with everything at the Chi Lin Nunnery, a serene Buddhist complex.

The Beer Shack is where Yardley Brothers developed from a home-brew into an award-winning craft brewery. It started as a small takeaway shack on the way to the beach, serving hand-bottled craft beer and only 2 draft options. The Beer Shack has now evolved into Lamma Island’s first craft beer taproom, just off the Main Street. Lamma is still the home base for Yardley Brothers and The Beer Shack is a not-to-be-missed locale for both locals and tourists alike. We have nine taps in total, offering limited-release Yardley Brothers beers as well as guest taps from local and international breweries, cask ale, locally-made kombucha, artisanal coffee and more. Our kitchen is open all day, serving elevated comfort food, American-style BBQ smoked in-house and brunch on weekends. The Beer Shack is open Tuesday from 16:00-23:00, 12:00-23:00 Wednesday to Friday, 10:30-23:00 Saturday and Sunday. Closed Mondays.

There are a handful of pavilion lookout points around Lamma Island that you will encounter when hiking the Lamma Island Family Walk across the island. One that I find particularly impressive is located just past Lo So Shing village on the way down to Sok Kwu Wan. Here you find a short walk down from the main trail to a traditional Chinese style pavilion which includes shaded bench seating as well as really nice views over the harbour at So Lo Shing and Sok Kwu Wan in the distance. It is a quick and easy place to stop by while hiking across Lamma Island, well worth making the stop during your hike.

This hour-long walking trail on Lamma Island takes you past grasslands, ocean views and fields of working farmers.
30mins ferry away from central pier 4, a local village style little island with few small beaches around and there are local Chinese seafood restaurant as well as western food to choose.

My friend and I took the ferry from Central Pier to Sok Kwu Wan and walked up the island to Yung Shue Wan to take the ferry back. Along the way, we had lunch, took a ton of photos and had a wonderful day outdoors. The weather was perfect and the hike was pretty easy. We especially enjoyed Lo So Shing beach and could have stayed there for hours. Lamma Island is gorgeous and such a shirt distance from the busy city, I highly recommend as a half or full-day trip to get another view on Hong Kong.

...for when you first arrive on Lamma Island, as the main ferry from Central takes people to the other end. There are lots of options for seafood, including the famous Rainbow Seafood restaurant (which has its own boat to take diners over), and a few other interesting bars and shops too, as well as a pretty Tim Hau temple on the main path out. To get an even better view of the village and its bay, make sure to visit the lookout opposite. Both of Lamma’s main villages have their charms but the remote nature of Sok Kwu Wan and little details like it’s covered main walkway make it just as much of a destination as Yung Shue to the north.
