This extraordinary forest preserve is worth a visit any time of the year. Becuase of this season's heavy snowfalls, not all of the paths had been cleared. You could tell from tracks in the snow that this did not stop visitors with appropriate footwear from striking out across the terrain. During this particular visit, ice skating was forbidden, but ice fishing was going on. I couldn't resist taking photos of groups of fisherpeople scattered across the lake -- some drilling holes as I watched. The thaw is coming. Because this property is so large and has so much parking, it is very easy to social distance during your visit. The historic Genesee Theatre is a 2,400 seat entertainment venue located in Waukegan, Illinois. Located along the northern shore of Lake Michigan between Chicago and Milwaukee, the Genesee Theatre is a hub of activity for Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. Hosting a variety of music, comedy, and dance, the Genesee marks Waukegan as a destination for high-quality entertainment once reserved for major cities. The Genesee was built in 1927 as a vaudeville stage and movie palace before being restored in 2004 to its modern glory as a live entertainment venue boasting one of the largest stages in the Midwest, an acoustically dynamic auditorium, and a beautifully restored grand lobby for intimate and elegant events.
On Friday night a Whitney Houston tribute show singer Belinda Davis gave a fantastic performance. It was like something you would see in Las Vegas. The theater is absolutely beautiful and has great acoustics. They have great artist there. Check out there shows that are coming. The prices are Fantastic. Very good Shows coming up. Buy your tickets at the box office and save a lot of money.

Overall loved our trip to this park. It was worth it to me just for the walks on the beach. We don't swim so that wasn't an interest for us. We explored the nature preserve a bit but it had just rained heavily so the trails were pretty muddy. The beach in the nature preserve is fantastic, and we also enjoyed walking north along the shore. Did not make it up to the north unit of the park as the south unit had enough to keep us busy for the two days we had there. I don't go to state parks often so can't really compare it to anything but loved it for what it was. We had no issues with bugs although, again, it had just rained and was in the 50s-60s.

The newly renovated Gurnee Mills is the largest outlet and full-price shopping destination in Illinois. Gurnee Mills provides the ultimate indoor shopping experience with nearly 200 stores including Macy’s, Forever 21, Dick's Sporting Goods, Kohl’s, Bed Bath & Beyond/BuyBuy Baby and Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World. Gurnee Mills is the second largest shopping mall in Illinois, after Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg and ahead of Oak Brook Center in Oak Brook. While purists might argue that it doesn't have as many big-name brand businesses on the marquee, they would have to agree that visitors to Gurnee Mills will find more entertaining attractions and savory restaurants than its more celebrated rivals. Located at 6170 Grand Avenue in north suburban Gurnee, at the intersection of I-94 and Grand Avenue (Illinois Route 132), Gurnee Mills features nearly 200 stores, including Macy's and Saks Fifth Avenue and Dick's Sporting Goods and Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World. The property also includes a movie theater, Gurnee Marcus Cinema, an indoor miniature golf course and laser tag at Tilt Studio. At this time of year, the indoor facility is crowded with children in a back-to-school mode. They make shopping at Gurnee Mills an all-day experience with shopping, eating and watching a movie. Other stores include Bed Bath & Beyond, Forever 21, Tommy Hilfiger, Adidas, Nike, Marshalls, Kay's Jewelers, H&M, Gap, Crocs, Foot Locker, American Eagle, Abercrombie & Fitch, Loft Outlet, T Mobile, Sunglass Hut, Disney Store Outlet, Lens Crafters, Victoria's Secret, Polo/Ralph Lauren, Movado and Zales. Ready for a coffee break? Stop at Starbucks. How about lunch? Try Subway, Burger King, Portillo's, Rainforest Cafe, Chicago Woodfire Pizza, Buffalo Wild Wings, Kelly's Cajun Grill, Charleys Philly Cheesesteak and Jamba Juice. And if you have time, your kids would love to spend some time at nearby Six Flags Great America.
