A scenic park located on the Mississippi River.
Frontenac State Park is definitely a beautiful place to spend a day or even an hour or two. The varied landscape provides plenty of opportunity to be at one with nature, from prairie to woodland, bluffs and river views. Parking at the end lot, we walked the steep and rugged Lower Bluff Trail. It descends about 3/4 down the bluff side and gives views through the trees to Lake Pepin (a widening of the Mississippi). On a 90 degree day, the tree cover and breeze off the river was very welcome. This trail is wonderful but it is rugged, rocky in parts and care needs to be taken. At the northern end of the trail, steps and stone paths zig-zag back up the bluff to join the Upper Bluff Trail. This is an easier, more level walk back to the parking lot and still with tree cover. While walking we heard bald eagles calling, had vultures check us out while we sat and rested at the many convenient benches on the way back up and we saw many moths, butterflies, bugs and fungi. We will be back in the fall to capture the colours.

An award-winning cider orchard presenting a unique collection of premium hard ciders and wines, produced from fresh local fruit, flavored by Wisconsin.
Emailed twice prior to special weekend date with hubby where this was one of our stops. They said both times they'd be open 11-5 Sat. Pulled up (drove from twin cities) to see snow in driveway and "closed" sign. Called--they said, sorry, were closed. They could've emailed me back prior to us coming. It's winter...they're NOT busy. And btw we live in MN, and you live on a farm in WI--EVERYONE KNOWS HOW TO PLOW SNOW HERE. Seriously?? Courtesy...common courtesy....figure it out, or plow your driveway and be open when you say you will be.

We've been there many time, but this one was terrible. Outdoor bartenders were inexperienced. One ask a gentleman what he ordered 4 times. I wanted to answer for him. Then they walked around with their food looking for whoever ordered it. Almost lost. Even asking us. And we didn't even have a # on our table for food. Then told them where they can find silverware and napkins. Like they couldn't bring them? Then a staff member setting up tables. Just threw the chairs, and tossed the tables into place. Very load and obnoxiously. I ask him if he could quiet down. I received an eye roll. We left and went to another winery that appreciated our business.

Cultural Cloth sells exquisitely crafted home and personal accessories made primarily by women throughout the developing world. In addition to curated collections and products made by hand exclusive to Cultural Cloth, we have special exhibitions throughout the season; offer workshops taught by the talented artisans we represent and extend occasional opportunities to accompany us to Guatemala to meet the Maya women artisans of Multicolores, a project we co-founded. The shop is located on the scenic Great River Road in beautiful downtown Maiden Rock, WI on Lake Pepin. Open April-Christmas.
Adventure along the Mississippi River destination Culture Cloth. Exquisite textiles from various artisan collectives to include Guatemala, India, Eastern Europe, and Bolivia to name several. Home décor and personal accessories captivate the eye and the hand. I savored the Kanthas and felt as if I was back in the markets of India. As a textile collector, I was delightfully impressed and very appreciative . I made a few purchases of fairly traded goods. Sometimes you need only go 90 miles outside of Minneapolis to emerge in another sensory world. They also offer workshops that engage the hand and eye to paint with fabric and thread. Do not miss this opportunity to discover this textile tactile treasure trove in Maiden Rock.

The premier kayaking and outdoor education guiding service on the Upper Mississippi River. We are your connection to the wild waters and natural beauty of the Mississippi River's tributaries and backwater channels. Offering tours on the Mississippi River and Lake Pepin in the Wabasha area.
Highly recommend this tour! Beautiful scenery, calm waters, and Avery is a very knowledgeable, friendly guide. Avery made us feel comfortable and explained all the turns and procedures for crossing the channel. We ended the tour with a close up of a huge bald eagle,
5 stars for Broken Paddle!

Nice little boat ride. Friendly staff. The food was OK. But-- the portions of food were very small if you are a big eater. My roast beef was very good but for me I didn't get any where near full. The waitress on our cruise was the cutest thing ever. She was the best thing on the cruise (no, no, no. It's not what your thinking. We are a group of 5 married couples and not a bunch of weirdos).

Picturesque twenty-two-mile lake in the Mississippi River Valley.
You can see a lot of boats on this lake at any time other than winter. Being a large lake and susceptible to wind, it's a place for sailboats. Always fun to see all of the boats in nice weather. Pretty area, but congested with tourists on holiday weekends.

The Old Lady altered the route of our road trip just to come to the Little House Wayside. Having read Little House in the Big Woods many times to the children while they were growing up, even our teenagers didn't mind stopping. The cabin in set on a picturesque hill. There are flowers and large grassy areas for picnicking. The cabin visit was something The Old Lady has been wanting for years and she wasn't disappointed. It may appear to be just an unfinished cabin but it gave a reality and deeper appreciation of the way of life for Laura Ingalls and her family at that time. The Old Lady is thrilled to have made "the pilgrimage," as she called it, and is now the envy of several of her friends for being there.

Abode Gallery is a delight for the visual senses, offering for sale items by local and other artists. Although located in a village of fewer than 100 residents, the gallery can hold its own against the urban galleries of Minneapolis-St Paul. It offers a selection of creative items across a broad range of prices, from the very affordable to the once-in-a-lifetime-art opportunity. Friendly and unique, it's a cornerstone of Stockholm's merchant district. In addition to the gallery's beautiful offerings, its design studio is well-known in southeast Wisconsin and southwest Minnesota for exceptional interior design capabilities. A GREAT STORE TO EXPLORE YEAR-ROUND FOR GIFTS, ESPECIALLY DURING STOCKHOLM'S ANNUAL ART FAIR AND COUNTRY CHRISTMAS FESTIVITIES!

Eagle Hang Gliding offers hang gliding Discovery Flights and Eagle Soaring Adventures. With this exhilarating way to experience flight soaring with an eagle can be a reality. Come take a flight with one of our certified instructors and experience the wind beneath the wings while taking in the majestic views from a perspective of an Eagle.
I thought this would be similar to para-gliding but it turned out to be so much more incredible! We went up to 2,500 feet and then disconnected from the tether, and free-glided down to the water for 20-25 minutes. It was truly an amazing experience, and my children (ages 12-17) also loved it.
Dave and his staff were great, and made us all feel very comfortable. They truly are professionals and are very experienced hang-gliders.
