10 Things to Do in Lahaina That You Shouldn't Miss

March 6, 2018 Janette Largent

Lahaina, the former Hawaiian capital, was the center of the global whaling trade, and its Historic District is a National Historic Landmark. Traditional Hawaiian luaus, surf lessons and tours on horseback are fun, but let’s be realistic—you wouldn’t be in Hawaii if you didn’t want to go to the beach. Try Ka’anapali Beach, one of Maui’s best.

Highly recommend this activity. The 2.5 hours went by fast. Coconut tasting was good but learning about growth of the coconuts and see this wonderful property were the highlights, and of course making coconut milk.

Kapalua Coastal Trail

A two-mile walk along Maui's northwest coast, the trail begins and ends on a beach. In between, you'll see spactacular oceanfront and bountiful greenery on the dramatic coastline.

We absolutely love this coastal walk. I’d say it’s not a hike, but slightly more aggressive than a casual walk. The views are stunning, the sounds of the ocean and birds are perfect surround sound as you walk along the coast. Do not miss it!

Our first time here and the Vigil Mass was SRO as we expected! A beautifully maintained Church right in the heart of Lahaina. An island priest once told us that the locals need to see our Faith displayed while we are on vacation as much as we are inspired by the local parishioners. Could not agree more. So far every Mass here has been packed with faithful Catholics. Nice to see!

THE BEST BEACH IN MAUI ISLAND!!! My opinion of course. I love this place, for me is the best one in the island. There is plenty of parking around the beach if you can’t find parking on the main lot. There are couple of restaurants around and the one at the end of the beach have very good happy hour, check it out. The main reason why I like this beach the most is because no matter how windy is during the day the water here is super calm and enjoyable. You do need to bring umbrella if you don’t want to be exposed to the sun too much. The beach is not that big but it was not very crowded when I went to visit. Also, check out the path at the end of the beach, the rocks make perfect scenery for photography.

One of a handful of beaches I visited on vacation. Beautiful area and the water is clear and warm! Nice clean beach also. The most important thing was the trust of other travelers. Not once did I have an issue on vacation with anyone stealing my personal items. This beach had no issues either. Leave your items and go for a swim!

When we saw this in 2-18 it was a strong surf day, so really saw some great action. Coming from Florida, this was a new sight for me, so pretty dynamic and exciting.... I wouldn't walk down to it though, and felt like the view from the parking area was even better then close up.... You could see the scale of it better from far away. so don't feel like you have to skip it if the hike is not desirable for you. I thought it was definitely worth the visit!

This brewery was located behind a strip mall. It was very industrial feeling and seemed to be full of locals. We met the owners who were both working. Very nice people! We enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and the beer was excellent. Was nice to have a drink off the tourist path. Check it out!

We spent a Day chasing the sun all over Maui in Dec 2017. We finally caught a break settling here for a bit. There is plenty of free parking and if you didn't know this beach was here you would drive right by it. I have hundreds of times. Its set back in beside the Westin Kaanapali. The drive way entrance is right across from the Sugar Cane Train on the highway.

Nice big beach with open spaces, but can be windy. They had picnic spots and its a public beach with restrooms and showers. Nice Spot with plenty of free parking

Within walking distance from downtown Lahaina, great little beach. We found this beach somewhat hidden in a residential location. At the time we visited, there was almost no one else and it was super quiet.
While we did not have our gear with us it looks like a nice spot to snorkel with little to no waves and the hope of seeing a seal.
