Kutaisi (Georgian: ქუთაისი [kʰutʰɑisi]; ancient names: Aea/Aia, Kotais, Kutatisi, Kutaïsi) is the legislative capital of Georgia, and its 3rd most populous city. Situated 221 kilometres (137 miles) west of Tbilisi, on the Rioni River, it is the capital of the western region of Imereti. Historically one of the major cities of Georgia, it served as the capital of the Kingdom of Georgia in the Middle Ages, and later as the capital of the Kingdom of Imereti. The Parliament of Georgia moved to Kutaisi in 2012, in an effort to both acknowledge the status of the city, and to decentralise the Georgian government.

We went here just to have a look. And ended up buying hand crafted wooden spoons, roller pins, chopping boards of walnut for nothing. Nugbari (why didn’t we buy more! It is the walnut grape covered sausage like things hanging here and there). And some good amount of fruits, yeah and some fruity tea as well. Friendly locals and very interesting place and surprisingly clean and well organised.

We went here at 11 and thought we could go up to the amusement park. But apparently it opens at 12, it did look closed for the season but was fully operational. So at least we could go down. Cost just 1 lari. Safety? What is safety! At the amusement park side you could just walk straight out over the edge, hold your children safe! No lock or whatever on the door, just step in. We waited a good 20 minutes and got to play in the gondola, not recommended. But great fun. Superb views of the city.

The Colchis Fountain is smartly designed, with about 30 enlarged copies of Colchis jewelry on blue mosaic pedestals, with, of course, spouting water.

The end of a busy day sight seeing, the gardens were our last visit. Time to chill and wander around slowly taking in all the different plant and trees species. We sat around the huge tree just admiring its superb stature. The little ‘church’ was a surprise discovery in a hollowed our tree. Cost only one Lari and on a gorgeous day like we had was well worth the visit. It can be walked to from the centre in about 20 mins.

Great walk bridge over the river. Sections have been covered with glass so that you can see the magnificent structure underneath as well as the fast flowing river. Lots of designs on the floor as you walk across as well as writing which I presume tells of its history.
