Wonderful muzeym,in a mansion of 1908 art nouveau

It's place where you can see and touch moose in nature. We had very positive feelings after so close contact with so amazing animals. You can also try moose's milk. Milk is tasty but not for everybody.
Problem is deficiency of public transport. I recommend to print map from farm's website and to take a taxi. It's one of the places which you must visit on the Golden Ring.

Personally, I enjoy traditional wooden architecture but this exhibition surprises by the number of exhibits. There you can find old wooden churches, mills and the whole street of wooden houses ranging from very poor to very rich. Expierenced guides will tell you interesting stories about life in medieval Russia. You will be able to see geniune things and furniture used in those days. We visited the museum in autumn, so the colourful trees added beauty to this picturesque village.

The central square has a beautiful old fire hall, some monuments, and is near the old trading arches. A nice place to start out on a trip to Kostroma.

This is another typical 5-domed Russian church built in the 16th century. However the monastery dates from the 17th-18th century. It was neglected during the Soviet era and is now in the process of being restored. The gold coloured domes are very striking.

You can ignore tickets at entry. Just explain that you don't want to visit museum. Museum demonstrates 3 examples of pechka and 2 arm-chairs. So no worth to visit at all. All other objects are free for visiting, well, average Russian rich monastery.

The fire tower in he centre of Kostroma is over 30 meters high and dates from early 19th century. After the great fire this structure was built as an observation tower for firemen. It is now a museum of fire department. Behind the tower is a military guard room and in front a large open space for people to mingle and kids to play. Good focal point for the city's residents.
