Parallel 44 Vineyard and Winery provides locally grown, world-class, internationally awarded wines as well as an exceptional tasting experience. Aside from producing award winning, Wisconsin wines, we host several events throughout the year. Cheers and we hope you enjoy your experience!
I drive a tour bus. Today we had about an extra hour and called Parallel 44 to see if they could accommodate us on short notice. The owner was very kind but very firm about not accepting bus groups because he is not equipped to handle large groups. We appreciated his candor-he saved us from wasting tour time and then finding out we could not have stopped. We may be able to visit in smaller groups at a later date.

Wisconsin’s oldest licensed winery… founded in 1967! The Schmiling brothers that grew up in von Stiehl Winery now own and operate it. The older brother, Aric, utilizes the most modern equipment known to winemaking as he artfully crafts fine wines. The younger brother, Brad, likes romance and history and manages the business. The Civil War-era building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, features a tasting room, a 10,000 square foot production facility, three Civil war era underground limestone tunnels and a spacious outdoor terrace with Lake Michigan views. Von Stiehl’s 30+ grape and fruit wine recipes use top quality ingredients from local fruit (Door County cherries), as well as West Coast-grown grapes (Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon).
Very nice stop staff is terrific friendly informative and helpful. Wine sampling is a good way to narrow the favorites before buying as gifts or use personalized to your own taste. Staff has always been very friendly and helpful . Wines are moderately priced and they offer a wide range of choices. The Estate wines are from grapes and fruits? they have grown and produced into wines! We love to share at Holidays with friends and family and the choices here are able to suite most tastes and budgets !
The Stone Creek Rose and RieslingAre among our personal favorites. They are always offering new selections!

Wow, I had no idea that this place was so close to my Wisconsin home. I saw their sign on Hwy 42 but I guess I always thought that it was referring to another local winery.
In any case, I was returning from Algoma after a really horrible experience at a winery there when I decided to give CCV&W a try. Their tasting / shopping area was nice enough and a very friendly woman gave me her attention right away and helped me select a wine for my wife (since I'm not much of a wine expert). She also DID NOT demand my personal information before accepting my credit card (what a concept, eh?!)
I need to wait and see how my wife likes the wine itself, but my visit was pleasant and (given how close these folks are) I should probably go back and learn more about wine...;-)

We stopped by to check it out after a local suggested it as the best fish house on the peninsula. We were pleasantly surprised by the volume of options! Not cheap, but good fish isn't cheap. We were also very pleasantly surprised when we were offered a small bag of ice for FREE to be able to transport our fish home in the motorcycle without losing refrigeration. Very nice and they were obviously prepared to do that, a pile of small bags of ice in the freezer for free to grab on your way out the door.
Now to the fish, some of the best quality, not overly smoky smoked salmon I have ever had! $11.99 a lb and worth every cent! Fast and very friendly service too. We will be back!

The jail museum is housed in (no surprise) the county's former jail which also served as a home for the jailer's family. The museum provides a wonderful collection of historical memorabilia. The former jail cells include an eclectic mix of items and rooms upstairs feature, among others, Native American artifacts and items from area churches. There is a small admission fee which is well worth it, considering how much time can be spent perusing things. The museum is located next to the Court House and is hard to miss since it sits high on a hill overlooking the city. Hours may be limited since the museum is staffed by volunteers.

Ahnapee Brewery played an integral part of beer-making history in the state of Wisconsin dating as far back as 1868. A new chapter in the brewery’s history began in summer of 2013. Fueled by the dreams of Head Brewer, Nick Calaway. Join us for favorites like Little Soldier or Two Stall and for special release brews from the Hobo series and other limited release craft brews. Two Stall, our Chocolate Milk Stout is affectionately titled after their two-stall-garage turned taproom. In the garage, enjoy eight different crafted brews, which include rotating seasonals and medal winning year round offerings. The cozy taproom features handmade flatbread pizzas and other snacks which accompany great service, friendly conversations and of course fresh craft beer. Take home a 6-pack, a freshly filled growler or a special release brew from Ahnapee's ever growing portfolio.
We enjoyed a nice stop during our motorcycle ride at the Ahnapee Brewery. They didn't open until 12 pm so we killed some time to get there, enjoyed the little tavern across the channel from it until they opened. Nice choice of beer, the milk stout was delicious! Very reasonably priced for very good beer. Nice outside seating in front and out back along the hill above the channel, fun to watch the boats go by. We will stop here again next time through!

Like the USS Cobia WWII submarine docked in Manitowoc, the historic Tug Ludington is fascinating in its history, ultra affordable for a tour and is more than worth the stop.
Admission costs just $1.00/person, regardless of age, and most tours are self guided although a volunteer is available to answer questions.
Docked on the riverfront in downtown Kewaunee, The Tug Ludington is on both the State and National Registers of historic places. Ample parking is available along with public toilets along the riverfront. As this is an actual tug, on-board navigation is cramped and can be difficult for both younger and older individuals. Children must be escorted by an adult at all times.
This proud vessel served in the D-Day invasion of Normandy by towing barges loaded with ammo across the English channel.
All of the girls, [11-19], enjoyed touring this steadfast vessel.
Be sure to pick-up literature on the history of the Tug. Plenty of unique photo ops available here!

Fairly good size country bar- very friendly owner and staff. Food is very good, prices are reasonable and portions are good size. Jeff, the owner says he likes to eat so he likes to feed people well. Nice place to stop on your way to Door County or going home from there. It's right on Hyw. 42 in the little town of Alaska between Kewaunee and Algoma.

There is only a couple animals (maybe like 6 different kinds) which most of them weren't out.. Not worth giving a donation to. There was signs for reservations so maybe it will be better when completed however if they are going to charge admission I will not return. My kids 2 and 5 hated it and were bored. Luckily there were trails to walk into the woods and a park!

Steve is extremely knowledgeable and very hard working. We had a great trip with him. Besides being an outstanding fisherman, he is very congenial and imparts a lot of information about the lake and the surrounding area. You can not go wrong if you fish with him.
