The fish is bred with the cold clean water from the Mt. Taisetsu. The fresh fish fished by itself can be used as sliced raw fish on that spot, or can be fried, or he can broil it, or can cook and eat it.

Sounkyo Gorge

The main attraction at Daisetsuzan National Park is this 12.4-mile gorge with towering cliffs and tumbling waterfalls.

We visited this place on two consecutive days, on 9-10 October 2019. The first day was raining and wind was strong, and hence both Ropeway and Pair Lift was closed. Suggest to check the weather for the day before making the trip down, as unfavourable weather can really render a day trip to the Gorge area fruitless. We took a local train from Asahikawa to Kamikawa station, followed by the bus ride from Kamikawa which took about 30 minutes. Do check out the train and bus timings before you make the trip down. On the way to the Gorge, you can already see a beautiful row of trees in their yellow autumn colours on the right side of the bus ride. The Gorge itself is beautiful and awash in autumn colours in the 2 days we were there, as early October seems the best time to visit. One good place to visit is the Momojidani Hike, the start point being a 15 minute walk on the road to the right from the exit of the Ropeway station. It is a moderately difficult hike especially from the halfway point due to the largely uneven walking trail. The Gorge area has various shops and places for drinks and food, plus an informative tourist information centre adjacent to the Ropeway station.

Daisetsuzan Sounkyo - Kurodake Ropeway

Daisetsuzan Sounkyo-Kurodake Ropeway and chairlift opened on June 29,1967, as the climber's gateway the Daisetsu Mountains, and also to enable visitors tosee the magnifcent views from above the Sounkyo Gorge. The splendor of natural environment can be enjoyed throughout the year on Mt.Kurodake(1984m),Daisetsu Mountains' highest peak with the mountain greenery budding amid the snow melt in June, the commnunities of aipne plants in summer, the colorful leaves in autumn, and skiing and snowshoeing in winter. ●Kamuy-Mintara● The Daisetsu Mountains, where Mt.Kurodake is located, are known as Kamuy-Mintara(the garden where gods play) in the Ainu language. The area boasted over 300 virieties ob alpine plants, and the magnificent scenery can indeed be said to be "a paradise above the clouds".

Winter wonderland came early in Sounkyo. Masjectic views of the mountains covered with snow and the freezing cool air made it so worthwhile to be up in the mountains while enjoying the scenery. Plenty of snow made it more fun. This was in November. Woo-hoo!!! You can also enjoy your delicious ramen and coffee as there was a dining area for those who are starving.

Ginga Falls

Reviewed By ChrystleAdventures - Niseko-cho, Japan

It's a great spot to visit for beautiful views, with a few places to go hiking up to better viewpoints. I'd recommend bringing closed in shoes to get up a little higher for a view. There is a large car park below the falls and a beautiful pathway that winds around the base of these falls and a few other smaller ones in the area. But you can't see both falls from the one spot down the bottoms and need to get a little higher.
