Wanting to ride the Twin Coast cycle trail out of Kaikohe because it's down hill in either direction so we stayed at the Twin Coast Adventures motel, hired their e-bikes and got them to shuttle us back to the motel after our 40 odd kms ride. Not enough full suspension bikes for everyone so some got hard tails (I didn't hear any complaints). Some of the electrics played up, which was disappointing. Basic motel but very comfortable bed and a great shower. Very friendly and helpful staff. Promptly picked up when called and recommended places to eat at.

We wouldn't have missed this for the world. Outdoor hot pools in the middle of winter after a day cycling half of the twin coast trail - super hot pools and others at a temperature to suit all tastes and needs to soothe aches and pains. Highly recommend.

What an awesome experience. Can’t believe I’ve never made the trip before. Offers a far more authentic experience than anything in Rotorua. It cost $22 for 2 adults and 4 children for 1hour. Absolutely amazing!

Pou Herenga Tai Twin Coast Cycle Trail

Bike from the beautiful Bay of Islands to the remote and picturesque Hokianga Harbour, or vice versa. Due to its sub-tropical climate, it can be ridden all year round- hence the name “winterless north”. The 87 km trail goes through diverse and stunning scenery with spectacular views, but it also takes you on a fascinating journey through some of New Zealand’s earliest Maori and European settlement

A great cycle trail easily done on your own steam or with a little assistance with a ebike, Definitely recommend going from Opua to Kaikohe then on to Horeke don't forget to check out the Mission House just 3km from Horeke. Staying at the Left Bank if you can. DAY 2 Wednesday-Sunday Sno's farm is open making a perfect lunch spot and sells fresh lemonade and home baking. DAY 1 we had a high light of seeing the train on the trail, we spent time listening to the history well worth it, our one frustration was all the cycle gates you had to dismount for. The second day was much better though still a few to go through. Thank you to all those who have made this trail possible, it was a treat to be able to explore more of our country on bike safely
