Driftwood Beach

Reviewed By Brenda J

We explored the island, our first time on Jekyll, by car. We stopped at Driftwood Beach for a stroll to check out all we had heard about it. We found lots of shells and loved the view with all the driftwood. I've never seen another beach like it. Highly recommend.

Jekyll Island Historic District

Reviewed By HGKCFP - Honolulu

An amazing walk back in time to the era of the Vanderbilt’s, JP Morgan and such in the 1920’s. This was the playground for the super rich and their “cottages” still exist. The grounds are huge to walk & enjoy as is the old fully renovated hotel.

Georgia Sea Turtle Center

Reviewed By BECKY S - Chicago, Illinois

We have two little girls who love animals, so this place was perfect for them! It’s not very big, but big enough for rehabilitating the turtles. The rehabilitation area is the best part. There are a bunch of pools (think the small above ground pools you can buy at the store) with sea turtles being cared for in each one. It’s interesting to read about why the sea turtles were brought to the facility and how the medical staff/scientists are treating them. The center also provides a lot of resources to help teach your kids about protecting our planet and the turtles.

Jekyll Island Trail System

Outstanding Bike Trail system! The bike trails take you any place you want to go on the entire Island. Most of the trails are paved. Some of the cross trails through the oaks/palmettos are gravel surfaced, equally as easy as the paved trails.

We walked some of the trails. Especially enjoyed the quiet portions of the trails away from the roads. Bikes rentals are available at many businesses including most hotels. Bike rental vary from $5.00-$6.00/hour to $14.00-$20.00/day.

Summer Waves Water Park

A waterpark offering 11 acres of rides, food, excitement and family activities.

Reviewed By Gill H - Mount Maunganui, New Zealand

We have now visit d twice, one with our three grandchildren aged 10-14 and secondly on our own as a retired couple. The cost of entry is reasonable ($19.95 for adults and children and $10.95 for seniors and all prices have tax added. I do think there would be a child price as aged ten is not an adult which makes entry pricy for families. No food or drink, other than water, can be taken into the park. There are plenty of chairs and tables in shaded areas. The pools are great, the water slides of which there are about ten were fun and this is an excellent family activity. A pass out to have a picnic is permissible so this is good for families. Highly recommended.

Jekyll Island Museum

Reviewed By SueFromWinnipeg - Winnipeg, Canada

Unless you live on Jekyll Island, you won't have a clue about the hidden history of this beautiful place.

Located in the original stable building and with free admission and fairly adequate parking, there is every reason to visit this museum.

The building is split between history, conservation, and a nice little gift shop. As a former stable, the building is a historic treasure in itself.

The historic side of the museum offers a nice little diorama that clearly demonstrates the historical layout of the "good old days". Much of this part of the museum is dedicated to restoration efforts with displays of colors, roofing, wood trim, and even a gargoyle.

The conservation side of things is a great spot for children to explore the natural environment of the island.

The gift shop is well stocked with a broad range of information and neat gifts. One nice feature is that this space is heated while the rest of the museum was needing a bit of heat during the cold day that we visited.

Great Dunes Park

Reviewed By NCTravelfan58 - Leland, North Carolina

Jekyll has added a lot of enhancements to the beach areas, with more parking and more bathrooms and showers. This one also has nice picnic and grill areas. Lots of parking for no additional charge, since you already paid 6.00 to get on the island. Open all the time. No lifeguards. Hard to judge a beach since time of year and tide can make a huge difference. Usually very clean and nice place to swim. There is a nearby pavilion which serves some food or you could walk to the restaurant.

Jekyll Island Convention Center

Reviewed By jenned17 - Conyers, Georgia

I attended the Georgia Tourism Conference at the Jekyll Island Conference Center and was so impressed. What an open, inviting facility that draws on the beauty of the island through the architecture, decor and artwork displayed throughout. The food was wonderful (I want the recipe for the loaded baked potato salad!), classrooms comfortable, Wifi fully functional, and restrooms plentiful and clean. The proximity of the convention center to the nearby town center with shops and restaurants was nice, as was the temptation of the palm trees, beach and ocean just outside. Beautiful facility!

Faith Chapel

Reviewed By James C - Atlanta, Georgia

Both major stained glass windows are by famous artists and have been lovingly preserved. The docent guided tour reveals much of the chapel history and how the windows were made and are preserved. The chapel is still in use and there is a fee for a docent led tour but it is free if you have taken the historic houses tour. I did not see a restroom but there are several nearby.
