Water Sports and Ecotours is located in the Humacao Nature Reserve which is on the southeast coast of Puerto Rico, Rio Abajo neighborhood, on highway PR-3, kilometer 75.7. It is a unique place to do ecotourism for its brackish lagoons. It also has beaches (not for bathing), swamps and mangroves. It is divided into three major segments: the Pterocarpus swamp and Mandri lagoons, both north of highway PR-3 and Santa Teresa and Palmas lagoons, south of highway PR-3. As you walk through the Reserve, you will observe different ecosystems and the different species that lives in the habitat that they use as nesting and home such as the beach the forest and mangroves. The reserve is home to Water Sports and Ecotours which offers services that go from walking tours, kayak, pedal, observation of flora and fauna for individuals, families, and groups. This way they can appreciate and at the same time learn about the Nature wonders.
Spent a Saturday afternoon at the reserve. We rented bikes from a very friendly gentleman named Gerald and took the very well marked and fairly flat path. Stopped in a very rustic beach and took some photos. Hiked up to El Morrillo, which are two battlements from WWII. When we got there, a young lady and her boyfriend were conducting a photo shoot. You can see the photos. This, of course, made the trip amazing. If you are in Humacao, head to Punta Santiago and see the Humacao Nature Preserve!

The Pterocarpus Forest is a rare ecosystem consisting of 51.67 acres of swamp forest. The predominant species in this wetland is the Pterocarpus oficianalis. The forest serves as habitat to 44 species of flora and 52 species of fauna, of which 13 are endemic. Pterocarpus forests, once abundant in the coastal wetlands, today are few and those that remain are mostly inaccessible and fragmented.
This is a well maintain forest inside Palmas del Mar. It's not too big so I would say that it is an activity for just a few hours and that's if you take your time strolling around, reading the information available, taking pictures and most important admiring nature. There are picnic tables so it's encouraged to take some snacks. I highly recommend a visit if you are around the area.
