Museumhuis Bonck. From as early as 1624, life on Binnenluiendijk 3 has been taking its course. For almost 400 years, people have lived and worked here. Come and get a taste of the unique atmosphere of this beautifull home.

The engine whistles and the fireman shovels coal. Wooden partitions creak, wheels sing and steam hisses. In your carriage you will experience a story from a bygone era. Between the historic towns of Hoorn, Medemblik and Enkhuizen steamtrams meander from village to village across the Westfrisian countryside and a historic steamer with a fantastic saloon-deck sails along the coast of lake IJsselmeer.
A great day at Steamtram railways between Hoorn and Medemblik in about 30/40 min North of Amsterdam. By car parking in front of the station. By Rail from Central Station A'dam to Hoorn.

Welcome into the Golden Age At the beginning of the 17th century Hoorn was one of the most important cities of Holland. Hoorn became wealthy because of trading with almost every country on the globe. Traces of this rich history are today still visible in this VOC-city. The Westfries Museum tells the story of this exciting period in history, also known as the Golden Age, of both the city as the region. The building itself, built in 1632 with its impressive Renaissance façade, is already worth visiting. Marvel over the more than 25 beautifully furnished rooms with paintings, china, glass- and silverware. The Schutterijzaal (Hall of the Marksmen’s Guild) takes pride of place with a total of four Night Watches of Hoorn: a unique quadriptych made around 1650 by Jan Albertsz Rotius also known as the Rembrandt of Hoorn.
I had a great time in this museum. The collection was really worth a visit. Definitely a great place to visit. I was listening to the audiotour, gave nice information.

Hoe woonden onze (groot)ouders?

Cheese. Inextricably linked to Dutch traditions. The oldest cheese market in the Netherlands is the cheese market in Hoorn, the historic port town just north of Amsterdam. A cheese market with roots in the Golden Age and even further back in time. A cheese market that is still going strong: visit this weekly market from mid-June to the end of August, acquaint yourself with this age-old trade. It’s free! At times, it might seem a little funny; briskly stepping men in their impeccably white suits and their straw hats with colourful ribbons, carrying wooden racks filled with cheeses between them. Yet this scene is part of an age-old choreography, with each step having a meaning all its own. The stacking, the judging, the weighing: it all plays a role. The colourful history of the West-Friesland region is also highlighted through folk dancing in authentic nineteenth-century costumes.
