A real historic gem of museum...from when Maple City was inhabited by the original people, to Washington Irving's visit to Phillip Hone (originally from NYC!). the gravity railroad and barge and canal days come alive in presentations worthy of kids and adults. You don't have to live here to love Honesdale!

The garmen could not even find this place. Ended up going to prompton boat launch and prompton dam. Nothing exciting at either one.

My mom and I took a 2 hour tour through the woods. She rode "Image" and I rode "Rebel". We went with another group of 6. Semi rough terrain – lots of rocks and tree roots. Horses stumbled a few times but recovered without anyone falling off or getting injured (we’re rookies). At first I thought our guide was a little rough around the edges but he turned out to be a-ok. Good guy. They tell you to “tip guide as you would in a restaurant.” If you pay with a credit card, it’ll cost you an additional $10. *Note: no pictures or cameras allowed.

What a great discovery! Beautifully restored factory with a stunning collection of glass. Interesting, informative and entertaining. The attention to detail is simply outstanding. Highly recommend a visit.

Skip this rat trap and head to Costa's on Route 6. "Don" on the go kart track curses about and in front of the kids and when asked about his foul language says "I don't 'curse word' care." Well that's true of all elements at Carousel. Mini Golf is decrepit, Go Karts barely move around the oval track hasn't changed in 30 years (literally), water slides are filthy, bumper boats are basically broken in a dirty bathtub... and when you ask the woman in the ticket shack who the foul mouthed man at the track is she says I don't know. Really? This place is too far off the beaten path for such a sad experience. If you have no expectations and are in walking distance, this place might suffice, otherwise, take a short fast drive away from this place to anywhere else. Disgraceful.

We were in town and stopped in based on other review. What an adorable shop! It is a definite "be sure to stop" if you are in the area!

Bean to bar chocolate and specialty coffee roaster. Free tour and tasting Saturdays at 2PM. Enjoy staff curated chocolate and coffee pairings, learn about Moka Origins' roots in humanitarianism, and experience how to roast coffee and make chocolate!
The staff at Moka Origins are super friendly and knowledgeable; people you would like to hang out with. The coffee and chocolate are superb and it's fascinating to learn about the whole process, from growing the beans through to making the bars/coffee. I liked hearing about the company's farm in Cameroon and connection with the other small farmers that they source from. Even if you aren't a big coffee person, it's a very cool experience. Bonus that it's kid-friendly.

We opted for the "Fireman’s Picnic" excursion to and from Lackawaxen with a 1.5 hour layover in Lackawaxen for a “picnic”. The layover featured food & drink items available for purchase (and benefiting) the local fire company which is NOT included in the price of the train ticket.
The train travels along the Lackawaxen River with a wonderful view if you are seated on that side. All of the coaches on our train were restored, comfortable and in great shape. The on-board guides were friendly and helpful if you wondered about your location or local history and the guys running the train were knowledgeable if you have any equipment questions.
The ride is on the slow side but pleasant on the older trackage, however you don't take a train ride these days to get from point A to B in less time than driving or to save money...
...you take it for FUN, nostalgia; to enjoy the leisurely pace and the scenery or just because you like trains.
The “picnic” grounds in Lackawaxen were great and even though we skipped the lunch option, it was fun just taking in the beautiful weather before heading back to Honesdale.
Of special note to folks with mobility issues: the train boards in both Honesdale & Hawley on platforms at the floor level of the train so stepping up into the coaches is NOT required. However this was not true at the picnic grounds.
This is NOT a negative by any stretch, just a reminder.
If you take rides to and from Lackawaxen or Hawley with no picnic you should have no issues.
Enjoy!

Stopped to get a bottle of wine.......stayed for tasting....left with a case of assorted wines. The woman on duty was very knowledgeable, not pushy.....after we made our choices, she served them in order so that we got the full flavor of each. Nice to spend some time sipping and trying wines I never would have. Highly recommend.

We were really excited to see the falls, as they were written as being a must see attraction by an online blogger who travels around PA. It is a beautiful ride out to the falls, but once you get to the dead end road to the falls (where the road closed sign is) it is a tricky drive. Luckily no one was driving on the path the same time as us, since it is just a 1 lane path with no side room to move over should an opposing car be coming. There's a small lot to park in. The bridge is now completely blocked off by a dirt pile and fencing. The only way to get to see the falls is a steep little path that is definitely not safe for little ones walking (or older folks unless in really good physical condition), let alone any type of stroller. You need both hands for support and balance, so holding onto your kids is out.. It was really disappointing.
