We did the Dewa Sanzan hike over 3 days during monsoons in August. We took the afternoon bus from Tsuruoka and hiked to the 9th station rest house on Gas-san where we stayed overnight at the mountain hut. You can make a reservation at the mountain hut throughout the tourist information center at Tsuruoka or request at the reception of your hotel. They charged 8000 yen per person. The hike to the 9th station mountain hut took about 2.5 hours at a very relaxed pace. It was very overcast that day and we were walking amidst clouds throughout, as a result our hair were almost wet by the time we reached the mountain hut. It gets pretty cold in the evening at the top, so do carry some warm layer. The hike to Gas san took another hour from the 9th station hut.

A day-trip hot spring facility with late-Edo/early-Meiji period exterior architectural style. Enjoy two different types of natural hot springs, which will warm you to the core and benefit your health. You can take a rock bath and a stone bath with different natural spring sources from "clear salt spring" and "brown spring with higher salt component." There are two separate bath areas that rotate between the men's and women's bath, so that visitors can enjoy the different layout and scenery if they visit twice (or on two consecutive days). Each bath has a far-Infrared sauna room and relaxing negative ion, which fills the room for all guests to enjoy a soothing time. Operating hours: 6:00-22:00 *Third Wednesday 17:00-22:00
