It was a fairly average zoo which had a few nice touches. I liked the kangaroo, wallaby and Penguin enclosures which you can enter and get up close to the animals. There was also an opportunity around 13:00 to have you photograph taken for free with an alpaca.
The capybara bath time drew a massive crowd so it was difficult to get a look, but, from what I could see, it wasn't much to get excited about - the capybaras were just sitting in a shallow pool of water rather than hay.
My sister-in-law took a two minute ride on a pony for 200yen, which she seemed to enjoy immensely.
Some people may complain about having to walk up and down slopes during their visit - it was quite hilly.
The entrance charge is only 500yen. Bargain!

We visited for a nice cycling spot in Tokyo suburb. Not so known even among locals, compared to the famous Shimanami Kaido or Arakawa bank, this is sort of hidden gem for family or casual cyclists.
The total length for the whole circuit is around 16km. Various rent-a-cycle vendors are available with reasonable rent fee (e.g. 500JPY per 3hours). Traveling by train and bus is most recommended, as traffic is quite congested to reach here from anywhere, not to mention parking space.

Definitely worth a visit if you live in the Kanto area (but not if you're just on vacation in Japan).
It's about a 20 min brisk walk from Higashimatsuyama Station which in turn is about 50 mins from Ikebukuro on the Sobu Line (Rapid/Express trains).
The site is nice and it's interesting to see the many burial 'caves'.
Personally I found the tunnels excavated for the manufacturing of airplane engines in WW2 more interesting. I like ancient as well as modern history so perhaps it was because I could better imagine the activity going on in the tunnels just a couple of generations ago.
There's limited (if any) signage in English but you'll be offered a small pamphlet when you pay the ¥300 entrance fee. There's nothing on there that Wikipedia doesn't have so read that and help save a tree and politely decline it.
One thing that bugged me about my visit was that the site constantly broadcast a guide to the place over the PA on a loop.
Helpful I'm sure if you understand Japanese and maybe after a couple of listens but I did get to wish they'd turn it off so I could enjoy the relative peace and quiet of the countryside.
There are signs warning of hornets (mainly active between June~Oct.) and snakes so take care as I guess they put them up for a good reason.
The whole thing will take no more than an hour if that so go on a sunny day and made it part of a nice day trip out of town.

The fireworks used in this October festival are handmade by the Konosu City Society of Commerce and Industry's youth group, and will be set off from the Nukata Athletic Field as well as from the banks of the Ara River. The grand total of 15,000 fireworks will include 300 30cm shells fired in quick succession as well as 120cm and 90cm shells. The best seats for viewing can be reserved for a fee and there are also picnic sections that seat 1, 2, or 4 people, sections where you can set up your own chairs, as well as paid seats that offer the best location for photographers.

I went here on New Year's morning. To be honest, it is not much of a tourist attraction, but at New Year it was quite crowded with a massive traffic jam outside. For New Year there were lots of food stalls. The shrine's roof is pretty impressive.
