From the top of the ropeway, you can walk around the area. It's a loop and it's an easy walk where you can see the steam vents. I also hiked up towards the summit of the mountain. It's quite steep with loose gravel along the way. I only made it about half way because I wanted to catch the last ropeway back down. Give yourself enough time if you want to hike all the way to the summit and back.

Mount Asahidake in the first snow, is marvellous. We didn't believe our eyes when we went up with the ropeway, going from a white-ish shine on the plants to a full 7 cm layer of crispy fresh white powder. Add another 30 cm and we would have been frustrated not to habe brought our ski's on the plane. The sight of the steam plumes coming out of the mountain's sides was awesome, to say the least

Quiet small town with beautiful autumn foliage (one of the earliest places we saw this autumn scene, on the first week of October). There’s a small foot bath open to public outside the onsen hotel, free to use but we were all wrapped up as it was a chilly day.
