Isolated from the rest of Maui by a 52-mile winding drive through coastal rainforest, Hana is an unspoiled beauty dangling from the island's northeastern tip. Untamed Kahanu Garden contains the world's biggest collection of breadfruit and a lava-rock structure believed to be the largest ancient place of worship in Polynesia. Soak up the tropical splendor on beaches with red or black sand. Winter and spring bring humpback whales, visible from Hana Beach County Park.

Waianapanapa State Park is on the road to Hana, Maui.
It's crowded here, but for good reason. The bay is nice and sheltered, which makes for good swimming. The foliage and blue water look beautiful against the black rocks and sand. I thought the pictures of this place were enhanced, but they're not.
Check out the nearby coves as well, for crystal clear fresh water.

We absolutely loved this farm stand. The staff was so warm and welcoming and we were able to try many delicious items including lilikoi (passion fruit), fresh juices and coconut water sipped right from the coconut. Their baked goods and coffee made from their own beans are terrific as well. We really felt like we were having a great, local experience. Definitely stop there if you are on the back side of the road to Hana.

Of course, since this beach has a different color of sand, we had to visit it! We arrived late in the day and the tide was coming in, so we couldn't travel too far...and I was 7 months pregnant, so we had to be careful...but it's so cool! Glad we made this stop!

A scenic hiking and horseback riding trail that features major waterfalls, beautiful pools and an eerie bamboo forest.
This promised to be a pretty cool hike, but we were turned back at the waterfall by mud. This is a very rainy area, so BE PREPARED FOR MUD. I saw people heading up in flip-flops, and coming back down bare-footed because of it. Don't be one of those, you won't enjoy it. If it is super muddy, I'd recommend just doing the bottom loop and skipping this one altogether unless you are there early and have plenty of time to slog through the mud and get cleaned up afterwards. I thought the waterfall was pretty cool, but the view of it we got wasn't all that great. It could be we didn't get close enough since we turned back after the first viewing opportunity.

Simply AMAZING. It’s out of this world, this beach that’s part of the Wai'anapanapa State Park is very unique and definite must when you are visiting Maui. There is a lot of parking at the park, the walk is couple of minutes and the beach is something else. You can spend a day here, it can get crowded since is one of the top places to visit, the water surf can be dangerous so be careful before you decide to get into the water. The send is black like the night, it’s a thrill. I read about not taking any send back with you to where you come from so I didn’t, its bad luck they say.

Located in the town of Hana, Maui, Hana bay is known for great swimming and snorkeling.
It’s true that the trip is about the journey and not the destination. We stopped at the bay just to say we got there, but truly there are more beautiful bays along the road to Hana.

Aloha and welcome to Mauis Garden Of Eden Arboretum. An Arboretum is a park dedicated to trees. We also feature hundreds of lowland rainforest species of flowers, shrubs, and ground covers as well.We began this project in1991 with 30 acres of densely overgrown jungle, now after investing more than 20yrs of physical labor and 2 million dollars, we have created one of Hawaii's most visited botanical gardens. We have many plants found nowhere else or are uncommon to Hawaii, such as rare Amazon fruits and medicinal species, endangered hardwoods, spice, exotic nut trees, ferns and so much more...A botanical Disneyland with over 2 miles of maintained graveled walking trails...A truly educational facility with over 700 plants botanically labeled. Try to allow at least 45 minutes to explore. We feature great views and photo opportunities but no direct access to the waterfall or pools. If you are only interested in restrooms (we now have improved facilities) You can do so for free 2 miles down the road.A portion of your entry fee is donated to the nature conservatory. The cost to keep our gate open averages $1,000/dy so we sincerely thank you for your support,,,especially those who have contributed beyond our entry fee. Most botanical gardens have teams of volunteers and use chemicals to curb costs. Our entire staff are well paid professionals, and we are almost entirely a chemical free park. Thank you for visiting, we do take your comments to heart

Kahanu Garden is one of five locations of the National Tropical Botanical Garden (NTBG). Kahanu is home to large collections of Breadfruit and other ethno-botanical plants of the pacific as well as Pi'ilanihale Heiau believed to be the largest heiau in The State of Hawaii and a National Historic Landmark.
Kana nu is truly a beautiful botanical garden, with a self-guided tour and clear labels for the plants. It is also a preserve dedicated to preserving indigenous plants. The there is the chance to see one of the largest historic temples in Hawaii, and it is huge. Finally there are beautiful ocean views. Well worth a visit.

Although not a religious person I make it a habit to hike up here every morning whenever I'm in Hana for the solitude and views. Well worth the hike and if you're lucky and it's mango season you might be able to snag a mango or two from the tree on the left about half-way down:)
