Mountain railways and roadways provide access to jet set–popular Gstaad in the southwest region of the Swiss Alps. Three ski areas, heli-skiing, 10 winter sports schools and more than 30 miles of cross-country skiing trails are within reach of this traffic-free resort town, which is also known for its fine dining. A promenade lined with luxury boutiques runs through the town center. Activities are also plentiful in summer, like tennis, golf, hiking and mountaineering.

We have been four times. Gstaad is so beautiful, The Palace is a lovely place to stay, the food and wine are great. The tennis courts are very nice. Roy and his wife Joy are very special people. Well worth it!

It takes about half an hour by public transportation to get to the lake from Gstaad, but it is worth the trip, because the lake is very pretty. You can walk around the lake in an hour or also do some more extensive hikes. Great views of the surrounding mountains. There is also a restaurant. Definitely a place to visit!

The Gstaad tourist office should be visited by all the tourist offices in Switzerland to see how an efficient friendly tourist office operates. When I visit a town, the first place I normally go is the tourist office to find out what is new and what I should do in the town. Naturally, I have already searched the internet but sometimes special things have not yet been put on the internet. So, I go to the tourist office. The Gstaad tourist office has multi-lingual staff and they KNOW their area. I am impressed with their knowledge. And they take time to make sure I understand everything.
