Crowfield Golf & Country Club

A golf course that is noted for it's large, snaking bunkers and multi-level greens.

Reviewed By Tom H - Cranbrook, Canada

I played this course on February 11. It had a weekend rate of $48 with a power cart. So good value.

The course had a decent layout but if you are not a fan of doglegs this is not the course for you. I think all 14 of the 4 and 5 pars are doglegs. At least I don't remember being able to see the green from the tees on any of them.

The main problem was the greens. They have had some problems this winter and they aren't in the greatest condition. They have had sand worked into many of them to help out. But it is going to take warm weather to grow some grass. They did putt OK though

Course was well bunkered but they were all hard packed and wet, maybe from the recent rain. They were not great to hit out of.

Houses on just about every hole. Not too bad but on a few I found them too intrusive.

Some nice water hazards strategically located.

Great service in the pro shop and restaurant.

I would play here again but I wouldn't go back for a couple of months. Until there has been some growing weather. It would be a much better experience.

Visitors can wander through these beautiful gardens or tour cypress-lined swamps by flat-bottomed boat.

Took a self-guided flatbottomed boat tour of Cypress Gardens swamp. Saw an alligator swim by! So beautiful and peaceful with water lilies everywhere! Did not walk around the grounds, but plan to go back during azalea time! It should be breathtaking then. A great place to spend a day with the beauty of nature!

North Charleston and American LaFrance Fire Museum and Educational Center

Reviewed By KParrishVa

We've been here three times since 2013 and enjoy it each time. The kids love fire trucks! The museum is not very crowded (every time we've been- it's been in the 3pm hour), with only a few people in the museum. The displays are beautiful and they have many pristine old fire trucks. They have a lot of safety information to read and see in live-action. There is a mock-up house in the back that give safety information on common house fire causes that's very well done. It may be a little scary for younger kids- our youngest thought it was scary when he was 6 years old, but now is fine with it.

They have a fire pole you can slide down! They've now added a theater with a short film on fire safety aimed at children. It's a good show with a mist of water as a neat surprise for the audience!

Overall, at $6 for adults and kids under 12 free, this is a good bargain for an hour or so of history, fire safety and let's be honest- AC in the blazing SC heat!

Have been to Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site several times. It is so peaceful with an expansive piece of land for children to burn off some energy. Old historic building remnants for you to look and study over. SCSP system takes excellent care of this jewel. Don't forget to stamp your "Ultimate Outsider" book.

Azalea Park & Sculpture Garden

This park is home to the annual Azalea Festival; one of the largest outdoor venue festivals in the Southeast. At other times it is a serene walk among majestic pines, garden walkways, ponds and walking paths in the heart of historic Summerville. The only downside is the noise from cars along Main St that divides the park. Loud sub woofers in vehicles, after market mufflers on pickups are unbearable. What would be a beautiful stroll is so lost from the invasive noise of drivers.

Riverfront Park

It is an old naval shipyard in the North Charleston area. Many locals worked there for years before it was closed. A brief informative history using plaques, statues, and pictures help to envision the past. Fishing piers, swings, benches, chairs, shelter and a playground make it a great family place to go for hours. The ships sailing by(if you are lucky) and the breeze off the river definitely makes your day. This is our favorite walking spot. The park is very well maintained and clean. Very quiet and serene. But, there are times when there are great activities at the park and we love those times also. it is a place for all. A writer, a pastor writing a sermon, someone wanting to be alone or someone meditating..

Go here now and then for the Wednesday night wings deal. They make wings with various sauces. Sometimes the wings are very over cooked and hence dry. This is a disappointment. About half the time they are very good. They have a nice, not large, house salad. Service can run from worse than terrible to so so. There is always a lot of noise but what can one expect in a pool hall sports bar. Other items on the menu look good though we have not purchased them. Friends have been pleased with the other items on offer. Would we go back, not on our own but if friends want to go there, we can be pulled along with the hope of good wings. They have little idea how to mix some drinks so do not ask for something like a Manhattan. A bottle of beer or vodka in a juice they can deal with. Not excited about them.
