Glenfinnan Viaduct

We stopped at the viaduct on our way to Skye and we were certainly not disappointed! Timed to perfection we managed to be there for the passing Jacobite Steam Train and found the perfect spot to capture some amazing video footage and photo’s. Our visit was topped off with a beautiful double rainbow over the viaduct!! If you are a Harry Potter fan this is not to be missed - if you appreciate the beautiful countryside and architecture; again this is not to be missed.

Nestled on the hill overlooking Loch Shiel and the Glenfinnan monument this beautiful church is well worth a visit. Recently restored to a very high standard. Parking is available and a short walk gives access to the church and views beyond.

Bonnie Prince Charlie Monument

Reviewed By darlao2015 - California, United States

We visited here on a very rainy day, as we walked towards the monument there was a bit of a clearing. It made for an even more dramatic view. There is a small parking lot that you will need to pay to park. A gift shop is located at the base of the parking, you can get more information about the history of the monument. I was truly moved being able to stand where there was so much history made. This is where the Bonnie Prince Charlie starting planning the last Scottish Jacobite uprising, ending of course at Culloden. I would highly recommend making a visit to Glenfinnan to this see this amazing place!!

Glenfinnan Monument

Monument to Scotish leader Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Reviewed By Jackiehail

Glenfinnan monument stands proud against the backdrop of Loch Shiel and the surrounding hills. Owned by the National Trust, access to the top of the monument is via the national trust visitor centre across the road. Access is via steep narrow steps and is not for everyone, however if you do gain access then the climb up allows you to savour the views. For those unable to access the top of the monument, a walk down the path to the base of the monument and the shores of Loch Shiel Is not to be missed. Parking is a problem and the trust car park is often full. My advice is to arrive early or later in the day avoiding the time of the steam train crossing the Glenfinnan viaduct.

Glenfinnan railway museum

Reviewed By michaelhH3868ID

My wife and I visited the museum in September 2020 while we were visiting Glenfinnan for a short 3-day break. Due to Covid restrictions visits had to be pre-booked and this was very easily done. We were given a very personal guided tour around the many interesting and varied exhibits by John and Hege who virtually run the whole operation double-handedly! We were extremely lucky to be present at the moment when the Jacobite Express steamed into the station for the first of its daily visits. We then walked the Glenfinnan Viaduct Trail down to the 'Harry Potter' bridge, which was an extremely enjoyable way of seeing the countryside around this fantastic part of the Highlands. All in all a wonderful experience and one which I unhesitatingly recommend to everyone. You certainly don't have to be a railway enthusiast to enjoy the museum, or any of its surroundings.
