Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is where Africa comes to Texas. Our 1,800-acre facility offers a 7.2-mile scenic drive where you can interact with approximately 1,100 rare and endangered animals roaming free in their herds. Stay in your car, reserve your spot on a guided tour, or even spend a night at our Foothills Safari Camp or The Lodge to see 50-plus species of wild animals including cheetahs, wolves, giraffes, rhinos and more. The delicious food at The Overlook Cafe is paired with an incredible view overlooking the park and our Nature Store offers an array of souvenirs to take home to family and friends. While Fossil Rim is sure to provide a unique experience and exciting adventure, we are dedicated to the conservation of species on the brink of extinction. Fossil Rim conducts scientific research, trains professionals, responsibly manages our natural resources and is committed to public education.
We've been to Fossil Rim a few time, and we'll be back again soon. We took the drive through this time, although we usually prefer staying overnight in one of the foothill cabins. We just wanted to post a few pics and start making plans to bring the grandkids here soon... :-)

The Promise begins on the banks of the Paluxy River in historic Glen Rose, Texas. In the opening scene, a grandfather and his grandchildren, Billy and Lisa, explore the woods and riverbed in search of the dinosaur tracks that have made Somervell County a popular destination for visitors. As the sun sets, they stumble across an old campsite that reminds Grandpa of a story his own grandfather used to tell him in the same spot--the one about the Promise sent by God.As Grandpa begins to sing about the Promised One, the three find themselves among the Old Testament prophets who foretold the coming of Jesus. Immediately, Grandpa, Billy, and Lisa are swept up in the events of Jesus' birth, baptism, temptation, and ministry.Based on Scripture and incorporating the music of award-winning contemporary Christian artists, The Promise brings a modern touch to the most amazing story ever told. Audiences experience a smiling, approachable Jesus who reaches out to people and changes lives. With its sweeping musical score, live animals, and a cast and crew of more than 150 dedicated Christian artists, The Promise is truly the experience of a lifetime. The Promise is performed annually at Texas Amphitheatre--the largest permanent outdoor theatre in the state. With its Greco-Roman design and 3,200 seating capacity, this state-of-the-art facility is unexpectedly intimate, making it the perfect place to experience The Promise. Many features of the Texas Amphitheatre help communicate the story in a modern way--a water-filled moat, rain curtain, lighting truss with 600+ instruments, digital sound system, and more. Audiences truly have an extraordinary experience at The Promise in Glen Rose, Texas. The story of Jesus is timeless. But the season is not. The Promise will be performed Friday and Saturday evenings annually during the months of April & May, and September & October.
This is the second time we have attended The Promise. Outstanding performance by the cast, a wonderful outdoor theater, music was beautifully done, costumes are authentic looking, etc. This is worth a drive to see and behold. The only negative is that if you arrive prior to the time they open their gates, the bathrooms are not available unless you approach the right staff member. After inquiring last night, they let five of us at a time go to the restrooms. For people who travel great distances, bathrooms need to be available. Perhaps the bathrooms could have their own outside gate connected with the main property. Nice gift shop. A potter has a booth with great crafted pieces. Prayer tent for those who would like to pray or have prayer requests. Go and enjoy and come away filled with the Holy Spirit!

Search for dinosaur footprints at this state park located along the Paluxy River.
Visited the state park the other day while on a "day trip" in the area. The history concerning the dinosaur tracks are fascinating and it is located in a beautiful area. There were several people working a "dig site" when we visited the "tracks areas". I think it cost about $7 per person to enter the park for the day. We went horse back riding at the company which was located inside the park - fun time.

Park on the Paluxy River.
Not everyone in the group would want to climb all over the rocks but they can still enjoy this area. Climbing is alot of fun but so is collecting rocks to skip on the river and wading into the shallow clear water. They even have a brand new life jacket lending station to encourage water safety in areas like this. Glen Rose is a smart town, trying to keep people safe with initiatives like this. A very clean park with picnic tables and plenty of trash cans along the outer wall.

Fun activity for younger kids! Walk and see the dinosaur models outside and the animatronic ones inside (might be scary for littler ones). My daughter (4) loved panning for the gems and digging in the fossil beds too!

I had no idea that Glen Rose had such a cool downtown area. We went down to find a restaurant and wahla! There is was! If you're in town, I recommend checking it out.

Texas' last undammed river.
Shallow rock-bed river where dinosaurs used to tread. For free fun, start off at Big Rocks Park in the river town of Glen Rose. Scramble over the boulders, or just head straight to the river's clear water, soaking up nature. Fun for splashing kids and parents who can sit and let the water rush over them. Walking dam gets you to the other side. Or walk the tree-lined path on the opposite side of the river, in a park with playground, pavilion and restrooms. Nothing commercial here. Just Free Nature.

Located in a pink metal building, this museum poses evidence to the evolution theory.
My grandkids looked at everything and were ready to leave. I was watching the video, but the kids got bored, so I didn't get to see it all. I went here to help educate the kids and to help them understand Creation, as that is my belief. It honestly is not very kid friendly and they really didn't get anything out of it. I left with mixed feelings. It wasn't expensive to see, and it's not very big.

Two great courses in great shape. Golf course only problem was sand traps which needs some work. Challenging and entertaining. Greens are fast to medium and you need to read the green carefully before each putt. Links course I prefer since its more open and allows for more errant drives. Lakes course
requires good course management in order to have a good round, Duff has a good crew to help him run the 2 - 18 hole courses

The oldest structure in Glen Rose.
Nearly every time we've visited Glen Rose we tried to visit Barnard's Mill. Finally this visit we were successful. The sweet lady working there last Saturday took us on a nifty little tour of the building and threw in some personal history (such as her memories of the place when it was the hospital). The art collection is very nice and not stuffy at all. I mean, it includes a sculpture of John Wayne. How can you not appreciate a collector who sees the value in that? We loved this place. The docent gamely climbed all the stairs to the top with us. It's sad to see it falling into disrepair due to recent heavy rains last spring. They have fundraising for adopting a window. Consider contributing to this piece of Glen Rose history.
