Prior to our trip to the museum, we were not aware of the Wendish people and their story of how they traveled from Germany to Texas in 1854. The docent was great in providing information on the Wends and their arrival in Texas till the present day community. The musuem had some really unique items that we really appreciated. Great place for a day trip from almost anywhere in Texas.

My ancestors on my mother's side belonged to St Paul. We are all Wendish, and the Cabin is called the Mertink cabin, the name of my ancestors. The church is beautifully painted. Sunday services are still given in the church. My mother was baptized, confirmed, and married here.

We stopped in to taste some local bourbon and were pleasantly surprised. The building looks like an old train depot and was lovely. It smelled divine. And my guys loved the bourbon. The tastings are free and very professionally presented. We enjoyed talking to the bar keep who was very knowledgeable about how bourbon is made. And the bottles look like glass guitars. Beautiful. It was a fun stop.

Stopped by after cruise traveling from Galveston to Austin. Spent almost 2 hours here and didn't want to leave! When I went to counter to pay they were discussing price of cattle. This was so interesting for a CA girl. Being I only had 3 pounds left for my suitcase allowance I couldn't buy all I wanted. Definately will be back when I visit my family in Austin.
