Located at Milepost 213 on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The Blue Ridge Music Center is just up the road from the center point of the Parkway and only a couple miles from where construction on the Parkway began. The onsite museum is informative, the staff is helpful, friendly, and ready to answer your questions. The facilities are clean and safe and whether you love Bluegrass music or not, you'll be glad you stopped here. They often have live music during the day to give you a break in your travels and feature concerts on Saturday night during the summer. STOP! You'll be glad you did!

We gathered on the patio of this gorgeous winery. It was a warm July day and the view is awesome. We were celebrating the 50th anniversary of friends. It was an intimate party of about twelve. The vintner was very hospitable and poured generously. After the party we all entered the winery room and made our purchases. We look forward to returning!

I had been to this museum once in 1985, and visited again just last month. I remember how the museum used to be, and it is so great to see how it has grown. The museum has added many pieces to appeal to many different interests which showcase the fascinating history and culture of Galax and its surrounding area.
The curator and staff member on duty the day my mother, cousin and I visited were very accommodating and helpful.
The last time I was here, I remembered seeing the dress that Kylene Barker wore when she competed AND WON Miss America. She was born in Galax and was Miss Virginia 1978 and Miss America 1979. I was glad they still had the same memorabilia, with updates, on display.
Also, I remember seeing a gigantic white bear, stuffed, and on display in an equally gigantic glass case. It was also there, along with a lot of other big game animals.
There are clothing displays, one of the first pianos to arrive in Galax, many photos, farm equipment, Americana, military displays... I could go on and on. There are two floors' worth of items to see...and they are all very interesting, whether you are familiar with the area or not.
The Matthews Museum is definitely a good, and educational stop. You won't be disappointed.
The fee for going to the museum is by donation.

I visited this car museum this summer, as it was open on a Sunday unlike many other businesses in the area.
It is a unique museum because it contains the car collection owned by the man who runs the museum.
There are several vehicles and period artifacts on display, along with plaques that outline facts about the vehicle. This part is a self-guided tour; I believe the fee for the tour was $4 or $5 per person; well worth it.
The more interesting part of the stop here was in another room altogether; where the owner seemed to have just as many vehicles crammed into a garage-like space. These are vehicles that I believe he sometimes rotates the collection of for the museum displays.
A very unique stop that we definitely enjoyed.
They also sell ice cream here.
It's worth a visit, for sure!

While sharing news of the lost of both of my parents within 4 months of one another Mr. Tony Truitt offered to
lookat jewelry of my parents. I am considering turning their wedding rings into a pendant! He offered very kindly to take a look to see what might be done!

Visited over Memorial Day weekend. Great prices, clean, and the staff was friendly! It is old school, but showed new releases. We watched the New Pirates of the Caribbean opening weekend, got there about 15 minutes prior to start time and had no trouble getting a ticket or good seats. Went to the Sunday 4 PM showing.
