Take a tour off Highway 99 and visit Fresno's best kept secret. *A hand-built network of underground rooms, courtyards and passageways reminiscent of the ancient catacombs. *Unique fruit producing trees, shrubs, and vines growing underground - some over 90 years old! *Ancient Roman architecture - arches, vaults and stone-built walls. *Underground micro-climates - temperature variations of 10 to 30 degrees! *Underground home of Sicilian visionary and self-taught artist/builder Baldassare Forestiere.
This is a unique place to visit and completely unexpected. It is the work of an Italian immigrant who made the most of land he purchased but was unable to grow much on it. It is a story of extraordinary perserverance of one man who...MoreThank you so much for your visit and your kind word! We're glad you enjoyed the tour.

This is a wonderful park, with bike and walking trails. Playgrounds, picnic areas some covered. The Japanese Gardens are beautiful.
They have concerts in the summer here and special events. This is a wonderful park to bring your dog, kids or just kick back and watch the ducks.

The Shinzen Friendship Garden is a traditional northwestern American Japanese Garden. The Garden was constructed to honor Fresno’s Sister City, Kochi, Japan, celebrating the spirit of understanding and promoting educational and cultural awareness. The beauty, grace and serenity of Japanese design is present in the use of varied plant material, rocks and stones, and water throughout the five acre garden. The garden is designed around the four seasons of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter; granite markers identify each section. In the Fall of 2015 we were proud to be chosen to house and display the world-class Clark Bonsai Collection, which is now on permanent display in the garden, offering a seasonal rotation of some of the finest Bonsai in the United States.
This is a wonderful Japanese garden located in the popular Woodward park. One can spend a couple hours admiring the landscaping and greenery in the garden. They even have some peacocks which children would love to watch. Visitors can really enjoy this place. There is an entrance ticket though. Also check the hours and days it is open to public before you go.

This museum was once the home of a Civil War-era surgeon.
This is Dr. Meux personal residence and office from the early days of Fresno. It has many period furnishings and utensils that were from that era. The best time is during special events like Christmas where it has original decorations. It is quite an amazing treasure that is often missed. Be sure to see it.

Lucky for us we stopped in on a family day. The exhibits were interesting -- they included ancient sculptures from Mexico, unique fiber art pieces and detailed fantasy drawings created with colored pencils. Families were able to create their own art, too. Materials were provided to make worry dolls, yarn designs, and images that used cards. This museum has something for everyone and is definitely a Fresno gem.

Although I had reviewed about The Discovery Center before (one of our family's favorite places in town) but I definitely have to review one more time to praise the newly renovated Discovery Center for many new, interesting exhibits and activities that were added during March. Our family has been a member of the place for the last several years and always enjoy our time inside the museum, at the little pond, at the playground, at the dino dig area and around all their wonderful gardens. There are so many things to do at The Discovery Center that make it a great destination for children to explore during free months of summer and of course year around if possible.

Kearny Mansion is beautifully decorated in period style: furniture, rugs, wallpaper, historic objects. Downstairs parlors, upstairs bedrooms, all very interesting and authentic. Especially nice to visit at Christmas time when all decorated for holidays or during the Civil War Recreation event.
