President James K. Polk State Historic Site

This site is located on land once owned by the parents of James K. Polk, the 11th U.S. president. The state historic site commemorates significant events in the Polk administration: the Mexican-American War, settlement of the Oregon boundary dispute, and the annexation of California. Reconstructions of typical homestead buildings—a log house, separate kitchen, and barn—are authentically furnished. The visitor center features a film on Polk's life and exhibits on his family and tumultuous presidency.

This was an extremely enjoyable evening featuring good talent, good food, and very friendly people. My experience certainly was not what some of the negative reviewers had to say.

Yes, this is run by a Christian organization. They make no secret about that, for it is plainly stated on their website. So if you are surprised by the "religious" tilt to the show, you can only blame yourself. But hey, this is not a bad thing.

Contrary to what was reported, there was no asking for "donations", no proselytizing.Just good old fashioned wholesome fun.

The food was actually better than most "Dinner Theater" fare. The word delicious comes to mind, and the service, provided by the cast of the show, was among the most polite and effective Iv'e ever seen.

I am so glad I found this place. They offer about four or five different shows throughout the year, and I plan on going to each and every one of them.

First visit to the Glencarin Gardens and it was a very pleasant experience. Beautiful sunny day on the day after Thanksgiving. Several families, kids, couples and singles walking the pathways and just enjoying the day. I even found a 'hidden' Rock Hill rocks to photograph, post on Face Book and rehide. Very nice late afternoon visit.

Anne Springs Close Greenway

Nestled amid beautiful lakes and hardwood forests, the Anne Springs Close Greenway is a natural preserve more than twice the size of Central Park, minutes south of Charlotte in Fort Mill, SC. Its 2,100 acres serve as a natural buffer from urban development and provide a wide open space for countless activities – from hiking, biking and horseback riding to picnics, kayaking and more. The land has ties to the Catawba Indians and the Civil War and has been permanently preserved for public use. The Greenway contains native plants and animals, historic buildings, a 40 mile network of trails, a recreation center and facilities for weddings and other special events. As a non-profit organization, it depends on memberships, program fees as well as private donations to support annual operations. Main entrances include Lake Haigler, Dairy Barn, Adventure Road and the Recreation Complex, all of which provide additional information and trail maps.

We enjoyed a pleasant morning walk around Lake Haigler and part of the Wagon Trail. While it was $5 for each of us, we felt it was worth it to experience the outdoors here. It was a weekday, so we had the place pretty much to ourselves. There are clean unisex bathrooms and plenty of parking. The trails are well-maintained and the scenery is great.

The young children enjoyed playing in the roped off swim area. There is a life guard and small beach area. The water walks out to about four feet deep. We rented a picnic shelter with two tables and electricity. ($35) There are charcoal grills available. There is not much shade so renting the shelter ahead of time is a good idea. Bathrooms are close by the swimming area. There are swings and a play area with a slide. Don't forget to check in at the ranger station where there is a small store in case you forgot something. This is a nice place for a picnic.

My wife and I come here with our 1 year old son, but people of all ages can enjoy it. There is probably a half mile walking path, lots of green space in between, but we mainly come here for the playground, it is the best in the area. We live around 20 minutes away and keep coming back. It is in downtown Fort Mill, so in close proximity to everything else so can make a morning/afternoon out of it if you are in the area.
