The diverse population of Chennai (Madras) is reflected in its rich cultural scene. You’ll find serious theatre as well as the glitz and glamour of Kollywood. Chennai is also an important center for the Bharatanatyam, a local form of classical dance. Visit in January, for the festival of Pongal, or in April, when Chennai celebrates its new year.

Tenth century paintings, religious statues and relics occupy one building while the other contains mostly modern works.
A somewhat confusing place if you didn't have a guide to direct you. Several galleries, the most fascinating of which was the Bronze Statue Gallery. Interesting to see the same deities interpreted from different ages. Photography is limited in some areas which is disappointing.

This majestic complex comprises six buildings and nearly fifty galleries; the impressive works cross every era and branch of science and art, from zoology and anthropology to puppetry, painting and fibre optic sculpture.
I am an art lover and how come someone skip the Chola bronzes and you get to see some of the most exquisite pieces of that period. Dancing Nataraja, Kalyansunder, different saints, deity etc all casted painstakingly in bronze. Its just in the centre of city.

Many arrive by Trains to Chennai via Central Station and move on to Egmore by another local train. The whole building of both stations are in Moghul Architecture like Red Fort in Delhi. Egmore is very badly maintained and the road (lane) opposite houses a Sri Lankan Monastery and has a mixture of hotels, restaurants, bars, souvenir shops and the whole area has no parking..with traffic becoming a night mare, in peak hour traffic, which is most of the time with trains arriving or leaving. A place, not to be missed for “just the heck” of it ..!
