Gamle Jaerbanen

Cycling along the Nordsjøveien from Egersund to Hellvik is a wonderful trip, which spans 12 kilometers on a well-prepared hiking/gravel road. There are many great checkpoints and picnic areas along the way. If it's too long to ride back and forth, a great alternative is to turn around by Maurholen (an old train station with waffle sales in the summer and a beautiful outdoor area) or take the train

Dalane Folkemuseum

Dalane Folkemuseum is a regional museum for Dalane, the southernmost part of the county Rogaland, encompassing the municipalities Bjerkreim, Lund, Sokndal and Eigersund. The museum is located in idyllic surroundings just outside Egersund. Bulit around 1850, it was originally the location of district judge Christian Feyer’s country estate. The area later housed a German military encampment during World War 2. The beautiful garden, the buildings and the larch forest make out the museum’s framework. The exhibitions give an insight into everyday life in Dalane during the 1800s and early 1900s. Thematic exhibitions focus on agriculture, traditional handicrafts and World War 2. With its large variety, the museum offers something to suit the taste of every visitor. Guided tours continuously during the day. Open daily from the middle of June until middle of August, at other times upon appointment. The garden is suitable for picnics.

Eigeroy Fyr

Eigeroy Lighthouse, erected in 1853-54, has one of Europe’s strongest lights. The lighthouse was built to ensure the safety of the shipping traffic along the coast. It was the first time a cast-iron tower was built in Norway. The sections were delivered by Baerum steel-works. In addition, 70,000 stones were used to line the tower. There are 134 steps in the tower itself, as well as 34 to reach the entrance. From the car park by Nautasundet, which has toilets and waste collection, there is a good path that runs 2 km up to the lighthouse. There are seven geo stops along the path, which give you an opportunity to learn more about the anorthosite, the special geological deposit in the area around Egersund. The lighthouse is open to visitors on Sundays during summer. The old lighthouse keeper’s dwelling has been renovated and houses a café which is also open during the summer. It is roughly 12 km from the centre of the town to the car park. Follow the RV502 road, turn right past Eigeroy bridge, and it is signposted from Segleim.

"Julebyen Egersund" is a yearly tradition where there is a big Christmas market. The surroundings are extremely cozy and it's a very nice place to go on a family trip. There is a nice hotel just 20 metres away from the attraction. This is an experience like no other! Highly recommended. Fourth time going this year.
