Cross at the Crossroads

Reviewed By John E - Ballwin, Missouri

I view this as a giant symbol intended to suggest either that everyone in the country driving by is a Christian or that Christianity is and/or should be the dominant religion in our country. As a person who values diversity very highly including full freedom of religion, I view the giganticness and huge size of this giant cross an affront to the diversity our country presently has and always has had in terms of religious affiliation. I don't think this giant cross is very comforting to those in our country who are of a different religion. So, because I view this as an affront to diversity and a subtle attempt to convert those who aren't already Christian, I'm only giving 2 stars.

Mid America Motorworks, My Garage Museum

Have visited this collection numerous times and it just gets better and better. Mike Yeager collects limited edition and high end Corvettes and memorabilia so much of what a visitor sees is one of a kind or very rare. If you want to see a collection of nicely preserved street driven Corvettes, this is not that type of collection. He has SEVERAL GM executive cars that were uniquely modified and then restored years later, a number of race cars, several low mileage cars that are the first or last of a generation and have had special production options added due to their owner's wishes. Nothing really run of the mill here!

Very nice winery with knowledgeable staff in tasting room. You are able to try 5 different wines and keep a souvenir wine glass for $6. They also have cheeses & some pizza & flatbread selections available with plenty of indoor & outdoor seating. A very nice impromptu stop along I-57 in Effingham, IL

I do not think I have ever had a bad meal here, whether it be breakfast, lunch, dinner or late night. The appetizers are fabulous and many are super creative, not just regular bar food. (i.e. something frozen, throw in the deep fryer) The burgers are real meat and dressed to your preference, with a great variety.

My only negatives include: 1. VERY noisy atmosphere if there are any amount of people inside, especially going into dinner time or at the end of the work day. 2. Service can be very slow. 3. Can sometimes wait to be served when seated in the upper dining area, not right at the bar. (they sometimes do not notice)

TREC Calico Trail

Reviewed By Bill F

We had some time to kill while stopping over in Effingham. We decided to take a walk. Although this park was a little hard to find, it was well worth it. It is very close to exit 160 off I57 . There is no signage, but from the parking at the Effingham Performance Center you go towards Evergreen St. turn right and it is about a block down on the left. The path is wide and paved. There are lots of hills with 9 to 14 degree grades. The only map we found was well into the trail at an intersection on the trail. It would be great if TREC would add signage.

Effingham Performance Center

Reviewed By saxsellers - Terre Haute, Indiana

My wife & I just saw a concert here. The venue...the building itself and the staff working here are great. I would consider this a big-small venue. You get that great small venue feel, even though there are lots of seats. There is no bad seat in the house. My wife and I were in the back section...Row 21 of maybe 30 and could see just fine, and the guys on stage didn't look tiny!

There is a big screen in the two front corners of the venue. The projectors and cameras need to be updated, as they look very much "home movie-ish". The sound system was good, but very "raw", compared to other venues I've attended. You can definitely tell that the band is live, which actually can be a cool thing because if I wanted the album recording I would stay at home and play it on the stereo. The sound techs did a great job with the mix as well. That being said, I think they could upgrade their equipment for a better sound. I would DEFINITELY upgrade the cameras and screen projectors first.

I will definitely be willing to come back to Effingham Performance Center to see more shows. This is a great performance venue for a town with a population of a little over 12,000 people.

Lake Sara is a smaller lake and is very tranquil. We stayed at a family home on the lake and had easy access to the water, which was surprisingly about 15 feet deep right off the dock. It is a great place for boating and fishing. Catfish and bass were caught during our fishing trips on the lake.

Hodgson Mill

Hodgson Mill make a lot of grain products. Their prices are lower then ordering on line. We purchased bread mixes for our bread machine. Purchased their European Cheese & Herbs bread mix (the best seller). I love their potato bread mix (6 to a box is cheaper), slice that baby and toast it, where is the butter?? They have other products in the store from the local artist venders. We purchased a couple of coffee cups, some K cups (caramel - pecan flavor), buckwheat pancake mix, steel cut oats, cornbread mix, a cotton tote bag and more. West bound, look to your right for the big red roof and log mill (cabin) as you approach Exit 160.

Effingham Convention and Visitors Bureau

Located in Central Illinois, the City of Effingham has something for everyone. The Funfest Amphitheater, MY Garage Museum, The Effingham Performance Center, Cross at the Crossroads are just a few of our attractions. Effingham hosts several annual events including the Corvette Funfest and Funfest for Air-Cooled VW hosted by Mid America Motorworks in the fall, and EffingHAM Music Fests.

Reviewed By SussexBloke - Bognor Regis, United Kingdom

We called in 5 minutes before it closed to enquire about accommodation. Although just about to go home, two very helpful and knowledgeable people gave us a few hints – but the booklet of local accommodation listed a place with cabins by a lake. We went there and loved it. If it weren’t for the Visitor Bureau we’d have gone to a normal boring hotel/motel.

Country Peddlers

Today (August 2017) I stopped for my usual country peddler fix while passing through the state. They moved! New store is bright and spacious, moving was probably easy since it is directly behind the old store. They have a lot of mass market stuff, but you can find some cool unique stuff too. Great prices!
