Edessa Waterfalls

Reviewed By JypeWasHere - Vantaa, Finland

I dont know exactly what I expected, propably something smaller, but afterwards I think it was well worth going there. There is some stairs you need to go down to get to the best view. There´s a place where you can go behind the waterfall and a small cave that costs 50cnt to enter. Beware of the weird big insects in the cave!
If you go all the way down the stairs, you´ll get to see the double falls. The stairs are in places very slipery when wet.
Free wi-fi, restaurant and free parking place available.

Greece is popular mainly for the beautiful Islands! So, don't expect much in our Mountains regarding winter snow sports. However, it is nice especially during high season visiting this mountain and enjoy low budget skiing.

The old bridge in Edessa was the ancient passage of Via Egnatia in the heart of Edessa city over the river Edesseos-Vodas. The area called Park "Kioupri" which means bridge. A well-preserved example of post-roman or Byzantine era (reconstructed during ottoman period) has one-lane structure once built to accommodate horse-and-buggy and foot traffic. The bridge is a historic landmark of Edessa. The feeling over the river is unique according the book 'A Child Counting The Stars - of the famous writer Menelaos Lountemis. Very close to city hall of Edessa.

Near Pieria Mountains, between villages Vergina and Palatitsia is situated an Archaeological Site of Aigai, the capital of Macedonia until the 4th C BC. There are the ruins of two Royal Palaces with best Macedonian mosaics in situ, on the Acropolis of Aigai, as well as ancient Theatre, Temple of Eukleia and Sanctuary of Mother of the Gods, (mistress of animals), mother and virgin at the same time.
Unfortunately, the Site was closed until further notice, and it is unclear when and if it can be visited. Pity.

Psilos Vrachos

Visited this cafe with my uncle and aunt for a beverage after visiting the Waterfalls of Edessa. It's a short walk and one of the cafes in Edessa with a magnificent view. I imagine a sunrise or sunset from here would be amazing. Service was great, the waiter was kind and very helpful. They also serve food but we didn't order - only drinks. This is a non smoking cafe and that was a bit of an issue for my uncle but I think it's better without smokers.
This cafe has been here for years since I was a small child and where my parents would come when they first met each other. So it's a special place for me.
Lots of local elders gather here from about 11am do best to get there early if you'd like to get a window seat.

It's a magic scenery. Just 6km from Edessa Waterfalls to the direction of Florina you can find Waterfalls Springs. The ancient wetland of "Tiavos" now is a great shelter for over 190 species of bird fauna and 40 species of fish fauna. Try on wooden bridge and then in the lake using the local boat called "plava". Be silence and watch carefully Swans rytmic dancing. There are 3 villages surrounding. Using a unique route between cherry trees enjoy the taste of nature silence. Ancient Via Egnatia passed from here also. Great experience especially at Spring time / Cherry trees floration.

Instead of welcoming tourists they had the door & window closed. When they saw I was looking for some information, they opened the glass door and I almost fainted since there were 4 to 5 people smoking in a very small place. They handed me a map that was a bit confusing. Conclusion: follow street signs and avoid the bad map and rude tourist information employees.
