America's first and largest military park is located just over the border from Tennessee.
We spent most of a sunny September day visiting two national battlefield parks – Point Park at Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga and Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park in Fort Oglethorpe, GA. The Chickamauga park is larger and requires some driving. We started at the visitor center where we viewed the informative 25-minute orientation video and spent time learning from the displays. Gun enthusiasts will enjoy the gun collection that is displayed.
We had the option for a ranger-led tour or a self-tour; due to timing, we chose to use the park brochure for a self-tour reading the battlefield information along the way. The battlefield view from the top of Wilder Brigade Monument is especially nice on a pretty day. We spent about six hours visiting the two parks and their visitor centers and highly recommend it to those interested in history.

Part of the Chickamauga-Chattanooga National Military Park, these grounds commemorate the "Battle Above the Clouds" that was fought on Lookout Mountain in 1863.
The weather today was overcast, rainy. This is an outdoor walk. Guided tour available. The view today was not great but on a sunny day beautiful views. Knowledgeable ranger. Would go again. This is down from the top of incline railway. You do not have to do incline railway attraction to fo this.

Great place for family with younger children. We took our 6, 4, and 3 year old grandkids there and we all had a blast. It doesn't compare to 6 Flags or Disney, it compares to an old fashioned State Fair - with a water park thrown in as a bonus.

Located atop Lookout Mountain, Rock City is a true marvel of nature featuring massive ancient rock formations, gardens with over 400 native plant species, and breathtaking "See 7 States" panoramic views.
Trees and flowers were just starting to bloom when we visited in late March, so I imagine in a few more weeks the views will be even more spectacular. There are so many different areas along the trail...tight rock formations you have to squeeze through, gardens, winding paths, bluffs with amazing views, bridges, and caverns. The one downside to our visit was that it was packed with people which made for a lot of standing and waiting. We'd like to visit again in the Fall or on a less busy day.

Our family visited the Chickamauga Battlefield (near Chattanooga). We had a wonderful time! The Visitor’s Center offers a 30-minute film to educate your about the battles fought their. The actual battlefield site itself is beautiful! You can tour various monuments through the park, each describingbtroop actions so you can understand what happened over the course of the three-day battle. While we were there, there was a Boy Scout Troop there and those boys had a great time. Please come visit this important historical site when you are in the area. It is free of charge and very powerful!

This is a little gem of a museum, some beautiful and very rare cars and motorbikes. If you love vehicles this is not to be missed and well worth the trip.
Fantastic experience, just one hour guided tour and FREE!
Unbelievable seeing these guys also making/repairing wooden-spoked wheels.
Thank you Corky

Tried this whisky tasting experience after it being recommended and we're glad we did. It has been one of our better tastings that we've been to. The staff here were very friendly, informative and exceedingly knowledgeable Kaitlin and Matt were exceptional. The whisky flights were...MoreHi, Garry! There are graves here of Union personnel that died in the War of Northern Aggression. There are thousands of graves here of all service personnel and this is a very large property.

One of the finest examples of the Phoenix wrought-iron truss bridges that were build between 1884 and 1923.
Easy pedestrian access from one side of the Tennessee River to the other. Lots of local coffee and ice cream shops, boutiques, and parks on the North end of the bridge, and downtown on the South side of the bridge.

More than 9,000 animals swim, fly and crawl through this aquarium dedicated to educating visitors about freshwater ecosystems.
We took our six year old during spring break. Really enjoyed the River side of the aquarium. The layout flows really well so that you are not always bunched up with a group of people. Parking was a hassle but there is a parking garage a block over.
